Thank you Murphy. I am not clear on what differentiates a flower portrait from a simple flower image. If you have time could you elaborate.
From Google they say a flower portrait capture the mood and essence of a flower. To me that is a little esoteric, but that may just show my ignorance in the art of flower photography. |

Very nice composition and great dof. I would darken the background highlights as they distract from the subject. Depending on your goal for the image this also might work as a black and white. |

Nicely done Judy especially handheld. I might slightly lighten the center disc florets to further differentiate them from the outer rays. Nice colors and exposure. |

Very nice 16x9 type format Murphy. I like that you kept the foreground foliage at a similar exposure as the flowers. Is this a native colony or planted? Nice density |

I too really like the portrait format for this image. I believe this is in the Rosaceae family perhaps a crab apple? You can see the seasonal growth scar under the flower cluster which would indicate it is a flowering/fruiting woody perennial. Nice exposure and I think the solid blue sky is complimentary to the warmer subject. |

Spectacular capture. My only suggestion is to darken the background highlights and maybe add a vignette to further dramatize this spectacular species. |

Ginny, I hope to capture an image of this species sometime and envy your good eye in seeing the owl. With that said, it took me a few moments to actually see the subject, so I would attempt to lighten its eyes and see if you can differentiate the subject from the background. I would crop out the light area on the left as well. Very good observational skills in seeing this guy. |
