Very nice composition and well executed, with the exception of the one soft area. I find that if almost the entire subject is perfectly in focus and one area is not, that area seems to draw the viewer. If a stack was not possible then perhaps a slight Gaussian blur to the left side leaves would add more to the wonderful center of the subject. Just a suggestion. |

Very nice Raymond, my only comment is a little more dof in the front would have sharpened the edge of the lower middle petal.
Magnoliaceae the family, is indeed one of the oldest angiosperms (flowering species) and the stamens and pistols prominently displayed is this image are unique to the family and found on many fossilized species during the dinosaur era.
Well done image. |

I would not turn this wonderful image into an all dark background, but would selectively darken some of the lighter areas. I think as the artist you need to decide if the subject is completely isolated or if the background is something to support the subject, and for me in this case I like some elements of the background. I also vote to keep the second cluster. |

Murphy I too find the stems to be too artificial. Perhaps a luminosity mask might due the trick if you must have a black background. If you want to try a luminosity mask, try viewing the channels in PS and see if one channel can give you a clear selection then go from there. You might have to over saturate the image on a temp layer to assist the channel selection. As far as programs go, there are many luminosity panels available for PS, but they are just actions conveniently made available via a panel button. |

I am going to take a different approach and believe the background could add to the rose environment. I guess it comes down to do you want a more "studio" shot or a garden environmental shot, to me I favor the latter in this very well done image. |

Leg tag doesn't bother me on this very nice image. I wish the shot included its beak to further define the subject, but that is nick picking. I guess some competition judges are not really objective. |

I too, would like the story behind the shot. Can't really tell what the subject is though. |

I like the branches (top and bottom) framing the subject, but he one on the left is distracting to me IMO. I would try to darken those and maybe clone out the smaller of the two. |
