Very nicely done. I actually have considered changing the background out completely as a composite that would be more complementary. Your dodging is very skillful and adds much to the image. Thank you for taking the time to creatively improve the image. |

I agree, a very nice composition and choice of capturing the subject from the rear showcasing the tomentose on the flower. Very creative and expertly presented. |

I like your composition and choice of color for the background. The bands are related to compression. Did you process the image in 16 bit and then convert to 8 bit jpg? In Helicon I process the saved file as a 16 bit Tiff.
The hair selection is going to be tough. One way might be to use a selection based on color and luminance. You could create a separate layer and exaggerate the background and hope the hairs retain their color and lighter luminance. You could then create a luminosity mask. In any case very nice. |

My guess is a Kalanchoe spp. If the leaves are fleshy then I think the genus may indeed be right. I like the composition and the lines of movement the leave edges create. |

I too would like a little more room around the subject. If this was a cropped image you could just enlarge the canvas and then do a content aware fill so you will not lose the size of the subject. The dof of field is adequate for me as the subject has many details that bring the viewer into the frame. Nicely done. |

I like the 16 x 9 type composition with the two people giving the image scale and perspective. Nice that you captured the image before the crowds descended. |

I agree with Murphy, the crop gives the image a purpose and the crop is spot on. I assume the intruder is the straight branch coming from the left bottom into the canopy. It could be cloned, but will take some effort. A quick selection with the minimal settings might do the trick and then content aware fill. Worth a try, but I could live with it as is. |

Thank you LC. I like the luminance adjustments, but the crop is a little too much as it looses context. I have been moving away from wildlife portraits to behavior and habitat imagery. I say this for species I already have portraits in my collection. As you may see next month I finally captured an image of a male Red Breasted Sap Sucker and this will most definitely be a portrait.
In this case the crop IMO moves it back to more of a portrait. Thank you for taking the time a bringing your skills into the image. |

Blue is hard to come by at this time of the year on the Olympic Peninsula. So I would have to fake it with a color swap |
