Hey Murphy,
The Seascape, Pt Arena, CA. I actually had a retired PSA judge from AZ. his name escapes me, give a talk and critique at our camera club related to contest and judging and he actually really liked this image, but it does go against all of the landscape no nos. |

I don't enter contests for the very reasons you list. For me art, and I'm not saying this particular image is anything special, should not be confined to a set of
"rules ".
Case in point, I have a seascape with the subject on the side and the horizon in the middle. I have shown it in three shows and sold two copies.
Would it do well in a competition? Who knows since the judges are merely interpreting their views of art.
Do I use critiques from you all and my local camera club colleagues, absolutely. I find these critiques to be insightful and educational, but not dogmatically resolute. |

The vignette works as well, but the attached color wheel choices might create a more dramatic isolation. I would choose a warmer green with some yellow in it, you could then also further isolate the subject with changing the luminance value. These are obviously artistic choices and strictly subjective. |

I concur with Vincent and very nice image. The lighting is well done with a nice fall off into the dark background. |

Very nice image and focus stack. I also use Helicon, but generally use method b. I am curious why you chose method c. Just curious.
As the background is similar to the color of the flower, you might experiment with the color wheel and see if any other options emphasize the flower more.
But overall a well done study of the first spring bloom. |

Very creative use of the gold reflector to give an edge glow on the petals. Very well done. |

Nice composition and use of the square format. I might ask why the relatively open aperture given the rear flower rays are soft? If you could have increased the ISO and stopped the lens down you might have achieved greater dof. Perhaps that is the intended affect you chose in which case the image is very well done. |

Thank you David. Not sure if you use Topaz, but you can run into artifacts if you crop beyond 75%. It is a limitation in the software. I just need to mortgage the house for a prime 600mm lens and put an extender on it. |

I really like the crop and the color balance in this image. the pink and blue tones are a nice color balance of warm and cool. Good dof and exposure as well. Nicely done. |

Very nice capture. What makes the image special for me is the reflection of the bird. |
