I agree increase the iso and f stop to increase the dof and then move around the subject to minimize the background distraction. I would not move past f11 though as distraction will then soften the overall image. |

Very nice image with IMO great dof. My only suggestion is to darken the background out of focus area to further isolate the subject wasp. |

Nice composition, dof and exposure. I think some work on the lower feathers of the bird to eliminate the white ghosts would further improve a fine capture. |

First off I like the use of the dark background to set off the subject blossoms. As far as the composition goes, think about the orientation of the flowers the top is facing right, the next moves to a diagonal right and the bottom faces the lens, this would lead you to eliminating the second from the bottom flower through cloning. The second issue is the focus or lack of focus on the bottom flower's labellum (lip) which is not sharp and highlights are blown out. Also look at the top left corner and the protruding blossom should be removed. Since you are starting a PS course this would be a good candidate to practice your new skills on. Nice Dendrobium spp |
