I also like Tony Kuypers panels and use them quite a lot when I really want to work an image. But I mostly use his combo panel, as it has a lot time saving functions. |

I first visited the Monterrey Aquarium in the 90s... It was wonderful then. My young boys really enjoyed. Its been about a dozen years since I last visited. About a dozen years ago I had a number of my own salt water aquariums. Talk about a hobby with a lot of work and cost! The white balance was always a challenge while photographing. This photo is another one where a tighter crop might just be the ticket. Did you use flash? or was this part of the tank lights? |

At first glance I said, I wonder how he placed the flashes. Great timing to get natural light, to get both the bird and gator head. Your idea to give it a nighttime feeling with underexposure is great idea. I also like Isaacs crop suggestion. Might even take just a bit more off the right and add a little to the left. How far away were you? |

I like this one also, and blackening the background to isolate really works. Artistically we all have different ideas, so my thought is I would have played with the light a bit more. My eye goes to the top left and the rest of the images doesn't get my attention. I'm wondering it maybe brighten the brown outside of the pods a little, maybe even the stem, but then emphasize the green leave with extra sharpening and color well beyond the white of the pod directly behind it. But that's just a thought and just one opinion. After a while I do finally notice the other tiny bud springing forth, but that's an after thought. I might consider cropping that part off also, or incorporating it more. |

I love the subject but the bright background caused my eyes to squint. Perhaps part of it is the rest of the site is black and so the white really stood out. The subject is nice and sharp and the moment in time and expression is great. I'm thinking instead of going High key, perhaps try to see if you can tonal sculpt the sky and bring out some cloud texture. Perhaps brighten up the birds and perhaps give them a little more saturation to make them stand out more with a sculpted sky. But as the group knows, I like Sat. I'm also thinking a square crop even before seeing Isaac's suggestion. Anything below the nest doesn't add to the story. |

I like this shot although I don't know exactly why. The colors are harmonious, the flags are blowing in the win, the mountains and sky background work well. The motorcycle gives perspective. I do agree with Barbara about crop and vignette, although I wonder what is to the right of this image. |

I love hummingbirds. And would love a trip to Costa Rica or Ecuador. This is a nice image with sharp detail and good bokeh. And as everyone has mentioned the branch perch adds just the right touch. Nothing much to say about improving it. |

Crop was not my main concern, although I did choose what I liked. Showing the full bird with only sky background has become a bit of a boring image to me. I'll have to consider tighter. The key to take away from this photo, is that the Z9 did lock on the eye and not on the stick which extends a foot or more from the head. (and in flight!) Every DLSR I've ever tried would mostly grab the stick (they are so close together, that the nearest item would win AF) and the eye would be soft. On my monitor within LR, White is not blown out at all, that's the color. At worst it registers around 248-250-250.... Mostly in the 240s... After a little research I think I'll stay with my Great Egret ID, since although both species look very similar, the herons are very rare outside Florida. (also black legs and no head plume) |
