33 Nov 20 Comment Composition cannot be better. This is a perfect example of creating a story with a photo. All the above comments by others are well founded. I do think that you could get a bit more out of this image with some dodging and burning. Perhaps a spotlight on the family trailing up to the snow covered mountain. Some of the shadows on the trees and hills could be highlighted and the colors pushed a bit. Then a vignette... which would reduce the brightness of the road and lead or bring the eye back to the central story. Nov 16th
33 Nov 20 Comment Once again, I agree with Paul. The complementary blue and gold work well. The buildings provide a depth. I just thought there was too much foreground and Paul's crop is very much what I was thinking would improve the image. Nov 16th
33 Nov 20 Comment I've always struggled with taking photos of someone's else art. I have wonderful images of the "David", but didn't create what was great in that image. Aside from that this a wonderful garden setting, with the lilac flowers on the tree adding a balance and nice background. The pigeon is also a great touch helping to create a story. So in that vein this is a marvelous photo. Nov 16th
33 Nov 20 Comment Photographically, I was underwhelmed with the grand canyon as other than a photo very much like above, you didn't have much other choice. I once spent from 4am to sunset trying to get that wonderful photo and lighting and never did create the image I wanted that conveyed the awe that you get in person. I have to agree with Paul, my eyes immediately went to the tree and pine cones. As the brightest and most colorful and sharpest part of the image, that happens. So unless that is the subject, I would crop off the majority of the tree and mute its colors and pump up the reds of the canyon. Nov 16th

72 Nov 20 Comment I throw up images here with minimal processing, as that is what I was indoctrinated into with "nature" photos, and I do want some feedback. But some dodge and burn would definitely help. I did that and added a blur to the background and a custom vignette. Topaz didn't do much with this image, but I did use a custom action I created that helped. You can see the results on my bird portfolio page near the bottom... http://www.rdykstraphoto.com/birds or wait until about halfway thru my main page slide show.

Isaac - I never did get a full face. I was hoping! Here are a couple frames just after that shot.

72 Nov 20 Reply This was some what near that area, but I'll not get more specific than that on a public forum. Nov 18th
72 Nov 20 Comment Boy that was a lot of processing, making a flying eagle with a fish into a perched eagle on a branch. ;) Otherwise very nice detail and you have to love the couple talons just reaching out. One thing, I'd mute the blue a bit in the sky. I also learned that a 1.25 TC exists. I'm assuming you own the 800mm. I'm trying convince my wife that $12000 to $16000 could fit into my photography budget. But probably will settle for rentals for a while. Nov 16th
72 Nov 20 Comment I love bears! And cubs are so much fun. I actually took many, many shots of triplets playing in a rescue area outside Denver, a month ago and have yet to process them. Its tough getting a good expression on both faces. Either a lot of patience or a lot of frames. I also visited the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center a couple years ago and enjoyed it. I myself, like the rocks, as they add some depth and character, but I might open up the crop a little to move the left one off the image boundary. Nov 16th
72 Nov 20 Comment Nice... I want to work and experiment more on micro/Macro. Your aperture allowed a nice DOF. The colors are great with the green background complimenting the orange/yellow/red/magenta. I might consider cloning that color over the grey areas. Have you ever been able to get the segmented eyes found in many insects?

72 Nov 20 Comment Interesting affect... It seems to be the grays and center picked up more than the surrounding yellowish/green structures. The color difference and apparent lessen affect of the filter make my eyes spin... and I think the sky and water add to this disorientation for me. Nov 16th
72 Nov 20 Comment I love squirrels but for some reason not many people like squirrel photos. In So Calif I seldom saw them, and now living in Texas we have them around daily. Other than raiding bird feeders I love them around and watching them. Nice post work. Only improvement in my mind is a little nit... there are a couple twigs the appear to come out of the side of the squirrels head. I might consider removing those.

72 Nov 20 Comment The children's pool has constantly been a conflict of interest. It was originally a wave break to allow kids a safe area to swim. Then the sea lions and seals took over and there was a constant political fight. Those that did not like all the smells and defecation the animals brought and wanted people to use the beach vs the conservation people. Several years people were not allowed to go to the actual sand area of the beach of the children's pool. That had changed just before I moved away from San Diego, so I'm not sure what the policy is now. Since I can see a reflection in the eyes I'm assuming you were on the beach. Nice sharpness and bokeh. BTW that is a harbor seal, not a sea lion. (no visible ear lobes and the speckled fur pattern ) Nov 16th
