2003 vintage digital cameras produced lots of noise in the dark areas. Global sharpening and positive "clarity" or "structure" adjustments accentuate this. Not having seen the actual rock formation, I wasn't bothered by the grainy texture. In film days grain was considered artistic in BW photos.
If you want to fight another round, working on a copy of the original jpeg, see if negative "clarity" and/or negative "texture" adjustments smooth out the rock surfaces before you apply any other enhancements. |
