The third alternative to my treatment, and I like them all, a lesson in the creative possibilities with black and white. Your high contrast rendering grabs my attention then rewards close examination. |

High key doesn't show well on our light grey background, but would behind a colored matte. |

I like your square crop, it subtly accentuates the curves in the subject. |

Your aggressive dodging of the trunk makes this photo. Good visualization of the potential in this scene. |

Shapes, lines, patterns, textures, and mood - any one of these elements can be a successful subject for black-and-white and you got them all in one photograph. Great shot! |

Our recent fire seasons have left many California forests in this condition. You have created an engaging image of this desolation - I want to keep looking instead of turning away. |

Somebody has to try something different, so I tried "inverting" the image, putting brights in the background. |

Flat light is a problem in this photo. I like Jim H's brightening and extended it by adding exposure to the mane on the right side (lion's left). This makes the light seem more directional and adds contrast to the image. |
