Another instructive example. Your Original 1 invites me to walk around and look at the back of flower blossoms. My brain's reaction to the BW version is "confusing shadows" - I don't think monochrome works for this image. |

In the original her face stands out because its color is significantly different from the surroundings. Removing the color leaves only the tonal separation, which is not as great. In LR's BW Adjustment panel I boosted brightness of the orange slider to +20 regain the importance of her skin. |

Direct eye contact, soft light, and simplicity of framing create a powerful portrait. Available light left the eyes a little dull, in Lightroom I brushed in some positive exposure to brighten them. |

Good capture of the light and the different moods of the two people, but I would like to see the largest (most valuable) of his cattle included in the frame. My alternative crop is attached (without BW conversion). |

A strong image with good tonal choices that attract and hold my attention. And having struggled with tilted verticals at the edges of wide angle shots, I admire your successful work on the lower left arches.
An IR question: The dark palm fronds work perfectly in this image, but green foliage is usually very reflective. Why are they dark even in the original image? |
