Your extra work has made a stronger image. |

Impressively sharp fine grain detail in the petals after merging three long exposures - good tripod and great skill. |

I prefer having people in the foreground. They show scale and add life to the image. And, although I didn't see this when taking the shot, the bright, vertical church appears to be offering spiritual uplift to these dark souls.

How did you light this flower. It works beautifully to show the architectural details. |

Let's try again. Tracking down and reviewing my version I changed my gradient filter adjustment from a -1 stop exposure to -100 on the highlights slider. |

Lots to like here: graceful subject, very well framed, time of day gave just the right amount of shadow for strong lines in your high tone treatment, aperture setting produced enough loss of sharpness on the right to suggest depth and scale. Echoing Tom, I recommend not changing anything. |

Thanks for the tip on preparing a copy of the color capture before converting to b&w. And for the composition lesson in your arrangement of repeating shapes. |

A simple image with a strong vertical subject, but in a horizontal frame. The right third doesn't add anything important, I suggest cropping to a vertical frame. |

You captured a dramatic scene. With the sun behind the clouds, the foreground in this HDR treatment feels too bright. Attached is the result of adding a Lightroom -1 stop gradient filter to the foreground. To my eyes this looks more natural, a stronger shading would make the storm feel more ominous. |

This is what I wanted (but didn't achieve) as I took the shot. Thanks for the photoshop lesson. |

Side lighting "pops the driftwood" and the long shadows it creates are good left-to-right leading lines. It also accentuates the background ripples that Tom addressed, I agree that they need to be softened. A simple and pleasing composition of a small scale landscape that would have been easy to overlook, nice work. |

Has your wife caught on that you are not bringing these flowers home just for her? |
