Thanks for your ideas and effort. I am building a large stack of treatments for this photo. |

In the original color version different hues of green produce some variation in the lily pads, but their similar brightness reduces this separation in a monochrome treatment. A tighter crop emphasizes the contrast between the blossom and the pads. |

Hypnotic pattern, with the simple horizontal/vertical weave producing diagonal lines. And the slight blur being confined to one group of objects gives a first impression of them moving together across a static background. A technical "correction" to make everything sharp would remove some intrigue from this image.
Tom, you always give us something interesting and original.

Good range of shapes and textures. The container(?) behind the glasses is lost in the dark backdrop cloth, a lighter background would reveal more of its shape. And my eye got stuck at the bright label on the bottle because my brain wanted to figure out what "Encre" is. Rotating the bottle so that just the first two letters are legible would let my focus keep moving around this interesting mix of objects. |

National Geographic would print this shot in color, but BW lets us concentrate on this image's lines, shapes, and textures. The curved flow from the tip of the hard, sharp beak to the rhythmic array of soft feathers (pointing in the opposite direction) is a wonderful composition. An inspiring photograph. |

BRRRR! Wonderful icicles, sparkling texture on dark background, leafless small tree, BW treatment conveys absence of warmth in the sunlight - they all work together to say WINTER. My one suggestion is a vertical crop. The left side of the original doesn't contribute much to the image, and making the stronger edges of the frame vertical is a better fit to the icicles. |
