2 Jun 25 Comment Thanks, Martin. You're right about the position of the shadow. I used the umbrella image as my guide but I took that about half an hour before the pier. It's bothered me as well. Will work on it. Jun 22nd
2 Jun 25 Reply Thanks Jim for commenting and the suggestion of a project. Yes, I am close but I don't go as often as I should. In fact, I haven't been there since I took this image. Lots of traffic and construction on the dunes to prevent further erosion from the storms. Maybe I'll swing by this week. I wanted to do some long exposure panning. Jun 22nd
2 Jun 25 Comment Well done, Stanley! The movement in the image is magnificent. I can almost hear the excitement from the crowd watching her. Jun 11th
2 Jun 25 Comment At first blush, Martin, I was fascinated by the flame that appears faintly above the larger flame and thinking, wow, how close George was to the fire. I like the crop to remove some of the distraction from the image, but not sure why you changed the color of George's jacket. I like the yellow better as it adds a pop to the image and the green is just too drab. I also agree with Piers relative to George's face color. If it was really that cold, won't George's face be more red? I'm always impressed with your ability to "catch" the moment of expression on your subjects. Your street photography skills are admirable. 2 Jun 25 Comment We must have had lightning on our minds this past month. I admire that you were able to catch this with your iPhone. Looks almost like you sharpened the foreground a bit much as there is a white halo effect on the tree tops that doesn't appear on your original. I have a MIOPS flash trigger and lately we've been having a lot of T-showers in the afternoon. After the MIOPS triggered my camera at least 100 times, I managed only 1 image that had the lightning bolt. All others were triggered from the sky lighting up without a bolt. I was actually standing at my garage and shot across my yard toward the neighbor's house. Jun 5th
2 Jun 25 Comment My comments are probably my own claustrophobia, but I feel like the mountain is pushing me out; encroaching on my space. That being said, your image certainly evoked a strong feeling in me. I would much prefer a bit more water space on the left. I prefer the color version as I can see more details in the mountain, but the B&W version doesn't evoke that same level of claustrophobia in me. Weird, I know! Jun 5th
2 Jun 25 Comment Great catch in seeing this scene as minimalist. Not sure I would have seen it when passing by. I love the shadows and how they lead me into the image. I light of the fact that these are dunes, I actually prefer the sepia color better as I find the blue's in the B&W distracting and unrealistic on sand. I also find the juxtaposition of the soft sepia color against the hard shadows intriguing. Jun 5th
2 Jun 25 Reply Thanks so much, Piers for your insight. I took your advise and using the Hue and Saturation slider in PS, I desaturated the umbrella a bit and lighten it as well. I always went back and reworked the shadow making the brush 100% hard, extending it a bit and actually changed the blend mode to dissolve so that the texture of the sand would show through. Great ideas. I did not crop anymore off, however. What do you think? Jun 5th
2 Jun 25 Reply Thank you, Shirley. You weren't too far away from me when you were in New Smyrna. If you come down again, let me know. I'd love to meet you in person. Jun 5th

6 Jun 25 Reply Thank you for commenting, Charissa. As I told Melissa in the above comment, I'm not sure how you are seeing this image as I left Group 6. I also explained that my focus was on the water droplets, not the center of the bloom. I guess, lesson learned, pull out the tripod and focus stack an image like this! Jun 22nd
6 Jun 25 Reply Thank you, Melissa for commenting. Not sure how you are seeing this image as I am no longer in Group 6. This image was submitted for May comments and somehow it got missed being posted. My focus when making this photo was on the water droplets hanging off the bottom of the bloom. In order for the center of the flower to have been in sharp focus, I would have had to focus stack. Jun 22nd

18 Jun 25 Reply Thank you so much for commenting on my image! Jun 19th
18 Jun 25 Reply Thank you, Ian for welcoming me into the group. I don't use borders or strikes often, but I felt this image needed something to pull it all together Jun 19th
18 Jun 25 Reply Thanks so much for the welcome, Bob! Yes, PS works the same on both operating systems and yes, adding the extra canvas before adding borders is the smart thing to do. Thanks for pointing out the options on the top menu. I'm embarrassed to say, for all the years I've participated in DD, I never actually explored them. I really like that current image tab! Jun 19th
18 Jun 25 Comment I love the relaxed pose of the cowboy. I prefer the original image over the edited version as the colors appear to be more realistic to me. I do like the coloring from the edited version on the cowboy's face, however. The cowboy is sitting close to the tree as you said, and therefore the tree would be more in focus than your edited version. To my eye, the amount of blur on those items closest to the cowboy has too much blur to appear natural. Perhaps masking away a bit of the blur, giving a more graduated look closest to the cowboy might help. Notice the rock that the cowboy is resting his foot on. There's an abrupt change in blur from the top of the rock to the side that is quite noticeable and distracting making the rest of the blur questionable. Not sure why you thought that you needed extra canvas on the right side of the image as it doesn't really bring value to the image. The tree close to the right side, to me, acts as a border to keep my eye from wandering off to the right and wondering what might be over there to look at. Sorry if it seems like I tore your edits apart, but I see a really nice image in the original and am impressed with your ability to handhold and use manual mode to get the focus and exposure spot on. Adding all that blurring effect distracted from the original. Certainly just my opinion. Jun 5th
18 Jun 25 Comment You surely met your goal of surrealism, Robin! Great creativity and I love the texture you applied to the image. I feel it pulls everything together. Jun 5th
18 Jun 25 Comment Nice save, Ian. To me it looks mosaic. I think I might drop the green saturation a bit as the green is as strong as the deep pink flower (the subject) unless you were going for a vivid tile look. Just a thought. I like the green border as it keeps my focus within the image. Jun 5th
18 Jun 25 Reply Angela, Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting on my image. You are so right regarding cutting off the stem on the right. I caught it and adjusted for it while tethered, however, after the session, in post, I saw that I had moved the far right tulip to close and it was touching the next flower. So the one I posted was the lesser of two evils. Don't know why I didn't think to add canvas to the right side and correct the issue. See my newest version. Thanks again for your comments. Jun 5th
