2 May 25 Reply Yes, after your earlier comment, I have been thinking about going down to the beach a take some shots of the dunes and seeing what I can do with a composite. Maybe I'll post some kind of creation next month. Thanks for the idea! May 9th
2 May 25 Reply Oh I like this much better! Good luck asking the ranger, lol. May 8th
2 May 25 Reply Thanks so much, Piers! Yes, my neighbor had some really beautiful cacti and I really miss shooting them. Good luck with your neighbor's irises. May 8th
2 May 25 Comment I love your work, Martin, and I know your style is to add texture to your images. This image is no exception and a wonderful composite. My only suggestion would be to desaturated Robbie's face just a bit as on my screen it appears the same color as the background. May 8th
2 May 25 Comment Stanley, I think this is a great image and another lesson in China's diversity. The right dark corner does not bother me, but since others have mentioned it, perhaps darken the lower left just a bit to provide more balance. Just a thought! May 8th
2 May 25 Comment What a tough image to work with, Piers! As Shirley has said, you got your reflection, but in your original image, without your commentary, it's hard to know where to look. Your edit is more focused, but to me, it's to weighted on the right. I'd be tempted to crop everything out but the island and the reflection and maybe skew the image a bit to give a bottom left to top right look. May 8th
2 May 25 Comment Hi Shirley, in another life long ago, I had a horse on the "Track", so my interest went right to the Thoroughbred and how you captured the front-end stride! Yes, there are flaws in the image as others have pointed out, but to me looking at it from purely a race horse perspective, I think you captured a great image. The jockey's position is still crouched over the horse's neck giving him full, but collected rein to run flat-out, the bit of track flying up from its hooves in the back, and all of the muscle detail shown in this beautiful animal. I do like Tom's edit to level the track b/c we all know that horse tracks are level. Great lighting and capture! May 8th
2 May 25 Comment Jim, although the details you brought out in the edited version are great, the colors are all wrong. Male Anhingas are black with silver feathers on their wings. Your original, although a bit bright, is the natural color of these birds. They are not brown. I've attached one that I took on a boat trip back in 2021. This male is in breeding plumage. Notice the blue eye. May 8th
2 May 25 Reply Thanks, Jim. The black background is very striking. It does make the red/pink pop! The original background was just the wall of the house. I signed up for the BirdingFest because our camera club gets free admission and I walked through but didn't take any classes and there weren't many vendors there. They are really struggling. I'll check google for some inspiration. I'm coming your way in July. Doing a workshop in Madeline Island with a stop beforehand at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. Looking forward to some time around Lake Superior. I had it on my bucket list. May 7th
