Nice complimentary colors of yellows and blues! I do agree with Martin, in that the tree that seems to sit behind the one on the top left is distracting. It really doesn't add to the symmetry. This sort of decorating the palms here in Florida seems to be a big deal. Honestly, I'm not a fan of it when you are walking or driving and looking straight ahead. I must say that your version of capturing them by looking straight up is much more appealing to me. Great perspective! |

Welcome to the group, Tor! I have to agree with Shirley on this image. I really like the original with its bit of color. The geese don't bother me, however, I could see how some might think they're distracting from the rest of the image. I would not crop anything off of the sides as I like the longer gradual diagonal. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. |

What a great portrait, Martin. I'll bet this man had a wonderful, full life and he looks so kind-hearted. I like Shirley's suggestion to add a bit to the right side. I also think that I like the sepia tone more than the color version. Something about it feels more real to me. Both are great though. |

Great image, Terri! You certainly have a vision for creativity. I think I agree with Piers in that the softer grays and browns would not be so overpowering to the rest of the image. As Shirley mentioned, that woman is the perfect addition to the photo with her hair blowing back as she moves forward. Nicely done! |

What a great image of this rooster! I really like your new edit as I found the initial edit lacking details of the rooster's face and eye. The tires really didn't bother me, and from what I know of roosters, they just like to be on top of whatever is around. Not sure I like the tires all melted together. |

I love these little birds, Shirley. We get them here in the winter. A friend of mine gets them at her feeders all the time, but I've never had any in my yard. I like Martin's edits of the bird's eye. A black mask and a black eye are always tough to get enough separation to distinguish the eye. Nice job on the catch light. |

Lol, yes, Martin, St Augustine and actually most of Florida was inhabited by the Spaniards and the American Indians a long time ago. Growing up in the Northeast, Pennsylvania, we were not taught anything about the settlements in Florida. In fact, I was surprised to learn that it has so much history. At any rate, thanks for your comments. I took everyone's advice and lighten up the tower, trees and a bit of the foreground. |

Thanks, Shirley, for your comments. I wish I had known you were here in 2022. I would have gladly met with you. Maybe next time. As you can see from the new version above, I took everyone's advice and lighten the tower and trees, cropped a bit off the right side and lighten the foreground a bit. |

Thanks Piers, I took your advice on cropping. As everyone has said, I also lighten it a bit. It was a fairly night morning when I made this image. The lights are on the ground and shine up toward the cannons. Not sure why the tower isn't lit. I posted a lighten image and do like it better, however I had to work with the trees so not to make them a big blob. |

Thank you, Charissa, for your comments. Even though butterflies appear to have landed, they never really stop fluttering around. His legs are in great focus because they stay still, but he was moving ever so slightly and I should have had my shutter speed higher. It probably wouldn't have hurt to have had a larger depth of field as well. Hope you are managing with all the storms you guys are getting and that Spring comes early! |

Roses are one of my favorite flowers to photograph. And don't you just love when your subject comes with a ready made background, complete with some circular bokeh? The pink and green are lovely together. Your focus and lighting are wonderful. You don't say whether this is an edited version but notice that the single leaf on the right is touching the edge. If you cropped this, I would add some space back there. If not, I would add a bit of canvas in PS. I find myself wanting to walk around the other side of this rose to look at the front of the it without the buds obstructing my view. I wouldn't think that the buds are the subject, and personally find them (4 an even number) distracting. |

Interesting image, Jim. Just goes to show that an image can be made from anything the mind can conceive. I like how you edited this by toning down the highlights and putting it on a black background. Typically, all of those reflections would bother me, but in this case they are a part of the subject in defining all of the concentric circles. Nicely done! |

Who doesn't love chocolate? I like the crop that you did on this image. The lighting is subtle and hits the subject perfectly. Your focus on all 3 brownies is great and at f/2 is amazing. Very nicely done! |

I really like your concept. The orange color is a beautiful contrast to the high key image. And you used the rule of 3rds for where you placed the oranges as well as how many of them there are. I wonder if you thought about taking this image at different mm. Your 12-40 OM lens is equivalent to a 24-80 full frame lens but you didn't say at what mm you shot. I might suggest zooming in a bit to have the oranges a bit bigger in the image. |
