Thanks, Jim! Yes, this barn was one we could only shoot from the road. I shot this barn from many angles. This particular image demonstrates the expanse of this barn. Even though I had to crop out the road, I was very happy with it. Not sure where you live, but this workshop is through Meredith Images located in Rogersville, TN. |

Ok, Piers, I cropped in from the left, lifted the shadows a bit on the front side of the barn and darkened the grass. I also touched up the area around the barn and the sky that Shirley mentioned. I do think the suggestions helped make this a stronger image. Thanks so much for your help! |

Thanks so much, Jaqueline! In deed, this workshop had the advantages of something new to photograph and a reprieve from the humid days of the Florida summers. The days were hazy so most of the skies are gray. I felt that the grunge added to an old-time feel as well as disguising the sky. Glad you liked it. |

Thank you, Piers for your comments. Yes, this barn was huge. Composition wise, I'm not sure that I understand what it is that you are suggesting. You think it's a bit heavy on the right so I should crop more off of the right? Wouldn't that bring the barn closer to the edge on the right and make it heavier? I was playing around with cropping it and think by cropping in a bit on the left, it would bring the barn more under both of the thirds lines. Did you mean the left or am I confused? |

Wow! This image (or should I say Composite) is so cool! The lighting is perfect, the lining up of the 2 images is flawless, and the compelling factor is off the charts! Such imagination and forethought to bring this together. Great job! |

Emotional image! My first impression was that these dogs were thrown together in close quarters and they rushed to see the human who was taking their photograph. The torn screen certainly supports my story. So glad you explained the circumstances. Great job at recovering the details from this image and what a neat idea of making images to support the story that you are writing. |

Great image, Shirley! I love long exposure shooting. Especially sunrise or sunset around water. I think I favor the original more than the edited version as I find it more moody. I feel like the middle band across the edited version is too bright. Maybe just lifting the shadows a tad on the original would have been enough. I love what appears to be mist in the grasses in the foreground. Nice job! |

Great image, Piers! I really like that you had the benefit of getting him coming right towards the viewer. I prefer the B&W version as it looks more crisp to me. The background on the color version got a bit wispy along the edge of the cat and I find my eye drifting to that. Perhaps a bit less gaussian blur or a different brush might eliminate some of that. Great shot. |

This is a great image, Jim. I love the way you framed the sun among the tree limbs. As others have already said, seeing the entire tree and actually from the lower angle might be an alternate composition. I would definitely shoot this vertically to give that feeling up moving up the tree. Great job and lots of color! |

Thanks so much, Shirley. I did take some of the grunge off the building and guess I got carried away a bit. Nice catch, thank you! We spent 3 full days driving around the back roads just north and west a bit from the Smokies. All of the old buildings were right near the road with little traffic, or we had permission to come onto the property. It was a great weekend photographing something different and a bit less hot and humid. |

Thanks so much, Martin! I'm originally from PA and I agree, the farming community is a tough life and a dying breed. I was fortunate enough to have a 90 acre Mennonite farm behind my old house, but that was before I picked up photography. So many missed opportunities! |
