Bunny, I say ditto on toning down the guano on the rock wall as it distracts from your star subjects. I feel like the sea lion on the far right should have a little more spotlight to balance the image. Otherwise, your image is beautiful with lighting that looks very much like a Renaissance painting. Well done! |

Connie, I agree that the buildings should be faded a bit so they don't overshadow the lovely tree and snow landscape. Wonderful composition and a perfect New Year's card image. |

Witta, Sorry I'm not familiar with Eva Pollack's work and don't do much ICM. Question: For the ICM did you have the camera on a tripod and simply move it up and down? I'm impressed that all the lines remained straight but still have that feeling of movement. Your image with its saturated colors reminds me of an oil pastel. I really like the gold of the grasses in your modified image. Lovely work. |

Georgianne, I'm late to this critique, but after reading your description as well as the several comments, I know that my "seeing" ability will be improved through this group. I didn't think about the light direction until reading the comments. I felt the blacks in the driftwood piles were too dark. I agree that substituting the more dramatic sky made the image much more eye catching. After applying the many comments, your image is really stunning. The blacks in the tangles of driftwood are lighter, the light is coming from the right lighting up the beautiful bare tree subject. The image has life and I'm sure that is what saw when you took the photo. Well done! |

Georgianne, Thank you for the warm welcome to the group and your thoughts about this image. Yes, the brightness of the buildings do bother me as does the brightness of the boats. I will mute them some so my eye doesn't immediately go to those details. I also feel that the karst formations mimic the subject matter often found in Chinese scroll paintings. |

Bunny, thank you. It's so beneficial to have another perspective. This is still a work in progress. I will keep your vision in mind as I work through it. |

Witta, thank you for all the truly helpful suggestions. I hadn't thought about removing the boats, but they do bother my eye some. I may give it a try before I settle on the final version of the image. I will also attempt your layer suggestions and see what I am able to accomplish. |
