96 Apr 21 Comment Gerard, I think the pale/light sky makes for an interesting background and creates a sense of negative space. It's harder for me to get a sense of depth in terms of the elements on the foreground. Is it just my eyes or am I see tiny white flecks/dots in the sky above the dunes? Your image has a very surreal look, almost as if the colors are inverted, even though they aren't. I like how the scene is also quiet calm and peaceful, with the birds eating. Are they flamingos? Great composition and very striking edit! Apr 21st
96 Apr 21 Comment Great image Cheryl, and a nice nod to Ansel Adam's work. I think that your editing it in b&w really brought out the sharp details and delicate textures of the fogs and the cloud layers. Gorgeous shot and great edit! Apr 20th
96 Apr 21 Comment Wow, I can only imagine how cool it must be to take photos at this location. The contrast between the cloudy sky, the perfect silhouette of the mountains in the distance, and the cracked salt pans give the image a very surreal quality. I like how the clouds are an array of colors. Amazing image and great edit. Great job! Apr 20th
96 Apr 21 Comment Beautiful shot Robert. I love how the color and wispy shapes of the sky/clouds are also evident in the water and sand below. The jagged edges of the rock are also a strong contrast and silhouette between the smooth, undulating clouds and the layers of ripples/waves. I like how Cheryl's edit pulled out more colors. However, it's a gorgeous scene and great edit. Good job! Apr 20th
96 Apr 21 Comment This is a wonderful scene Dale. I like how you captured the movement and ripples of the water so clearly. The scene also gives of a sense of cheerfulness, like a bring spring morning out in the woods.
I agree with others that the tint or tone of image seems to be more warm-hued or yellow-hued. I also like Dan's edit because it brings out more of the blues and greens. But, I also think that Cheryl's edit in b&w creates another interesting effect. Great shot!

96 Apr 21 Reply Thank you Dale. In terms of the B&W, do you think that a lighter version (like my first edited version) or a darker version (like Cheryl's) works better, or perhaps a version that is somewhere between the two? Here's a revised version of mine that is a bit darker, for comparison. Apr 19th
96 Apr 21 Reply Thank you Cheryl. I like how you darkened up the B&W. I think my original B&W was a bit flat, so having a greater range of dark tones brings out the shapes of the elevated highways very nicely. Great edit! Apr 19th
96 Apr 21 Reply Thank you Dan. Yes, the tilt seems to be a bit of a double-edged sword. I agree that a night shot would probably take care of the issue. I will see in Luminar 4 has the clone feature, as it seems to be pretty important and well-used by other PSA members. Apr 19th
96 Apr 21 Reply Thank you Robert. I agree that getting a night shot of it would be amazing, and it would be a nice contrast to the daytime photo. I'm adding that to my bucket list of photos to take whenever I get to travel again safely. Apr 19th
96 Apr 21 Reply Thank you Gerard. I see what you mean about the B&W version looking a bit flat by comparison. I agree that while B&W could suit this scene, I kind of like the muted green (like a dirty mint green) color and overall tone. Maybe if the B&W version had a stronger contrast, that might make a B&W version look less flat?
I definitely avoided going near saturation or vibrancy in post-editing because I didn't want to make it look brighter/cleaner (because I would know that's not how it really looks, and that would bother me).
I also tried playing a bit with the perspective, at least in terms of getting the road straight horizontally. I noticed that even if one thing gets straightening, then something else will look off-kilter. It is an unusual intersection to photograph for exactly the reasons you mentioned - but a fun challenge.
