Hi Cheryl, great, thanks. I'll play with Luminar 4 to try to work on that. |

Hi Dan, thank you. I agree, this has been my favorite image that I have shared so far. It was totally worth it waking up so early in the morning to catch the sunrise. |

Cheryl, I think your choice of image was perfect for a b&w image. I love the shot in color as well. I agree with others that the front lower part of the image seems a bit flat. However, cropping it out would lose the reflection on the trees on the left side. The color version shows the reflection of the clouds in the front, so I played with it in lightroom to try to get more of those details in the foreground (adjusted the light, highlight, and contrast slightly). The composition is well-balanced and shows a great variety in terms of the water, land, and sky elements. Great edit and superb shot! |

Hi Gerard, I like how you captured the details of the houses, factory roof, graveyard, and trees on the hillside while also capturing the scale and depth of the whole scene/composition. It definitely tells the story you described. Great composition and superb shot! |

Hi Dan, this is wonderfully composed. The path of the stream draws the eye from the foreground to background. The snow sits in perfect piles on the trees and the banks. The haze adds a touch of mystery to the edge/back of the scene. Beautiful image and great shot! |

Hi Robert, this is a really interesting composition. You captured the texture and shape of the sand dune so clearly. The shade of purple light catching all of those details is perfect. Beautiful shot!! |

Hi Dale, thank you. The view from the hostel was an unexpected yet perfect photo opportunity to capture a cityscape with a substantial amount of nature/greenery as well. Now that I have Luminar 4, I will play around with it more and learn how to straighten out skyscrapers so they aren't leaning. |

Hi Dale, Great image. I think how the delicate buds are so bright and soft-looking compared to the more angular, geometric lines of the tree trunks and branches. The atmosphere of the scene feels very light and almost dreamy, even though the elements are very clear and real.
Speaking as someone who hates having people in my images, goes out at odd hours to avoid people getting in my shots, and spends long periods of time just waiting to get people-free shots, I find people to be out of place and distracting in scenes that aren't "people-focused". Obviously, if a scene is of a busy street/carnival, then people make sense. But then again, that is just my pet peeve. I know that many people don't feel as strongly or actually like having people in their images. |

Hi Gerard, Thank you. I agree that the art deco palette (which I haven't seen much of outside of Miami, FL) is really eye-catching. For the coral building, the walls are actually curved, which causes the curvature appearance. Actually, all of the buildings of the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center sports complex were built in rounded/curved shapes and are painted in art deco colors (mostly coral). So, staying in the tallest hostel within the complex with a view of the buildings below made for interesting photo opportunities.
I attached a cropped version, per your description. I agree that it gives the image a certain sense of balance/symmetry. |

Hi Cheryl, thank you. I agree, the coral is a really lovely color that contrasts both "nature/greenery" and typical "city/urban" colors. For the tilting building, do you mean the coral-colored building, or another building (i.e. one of the skyscrapers)? If it is the coral-colored building, that seems like a bit of an optical illusion (though it actually isn't) because the coral building walls are actually curved/rounded (i.e. shape of the buildings walls are built to look like/bends like a wave and don't run in a straight line). However, if it's another building that is off, please do let me know, and I'll work on that. Thanks. |
