I don't want to try an argument with my next comment but discussion. Can we not have leading lines right to left? I've received tha5 comment often in photo judgings when I set my photos up right to left. Is this a cultural thing because we read left to right or perhaps a right brain left bring thing? I am left handed and am comfortable with both left to right versus right to left. Thoughts? |

I do like that imagery, like the Jimmy Stewart movie "rear window" |

Hi Gerard, thanks for the comments, I do like the cropping of the bottom of the image (perhaps a little less). I don't care for the brightening of the window in the building as now my eye is always checking it out. The more ominous sky is definitely a plus. As always thanks for the comments. |

I also have been playing with flowers for a while. I started by watching some of Harold Davis's youtube stuff. I like your image, particularly the flower (obviously), the background in the top left of the image and the manner in which the stem of the flower "disappears" into the background lower left. I find the brightness of the background lower right is too bright with no discernable detail (as far as I can see). I do like that the background reverse fades(?) from top left to bottom right but perhaps a slight darkening overall would show the same effect but with some more detail bottom right. Very well done! |

It was a dark and stormy night and John the donkey (random name selection) was still stubbornly in the field eating.... Love the details, the texture and the lighting. Nice |

I like this for the menace it is portraying and for the time period (40's-50's or perhaps prohibition?) I agree with Gerard's comments and that he does indeed have a sharp eye. I think darkening the tunnel will help as I think the texture seems different in it than in the portrait portion. I tend to think in stories with pictures like these and I can easily imagine Al Capone and gang driving up with a load of hootch being delivered followed by Elliot Ness trying to round them all up. Thanks for the story. |

Very ominous indeed. reminds me of the Old b/w science fiction movies I watched as a kid (Flash Gordon with his perennial bad guy Ming the Merciless). Love the vulture(?) caught in the top left. Maybe a little less contrast on the vertical pipes to show them as more black and maybe a little more of the building at the bottom but that is only conjecture on my part. Nice!! |

I really like this image, particularly against the black background. A very serene and calming photo until I realized that they have their "back" to us then suddenly I become annoyed by that. Really caught my attention. Interestingly the local club I belong to just did a competition of flower photos. I did not fare well but the judge was big on more cropping. So I looked at yours with different crops and each crop I tried looked great but not better that yours (like just the three blooms at the top right). Nicely done!!! I was curious though as to why you flipped it horizontally? |
