Great image, whether it's abstract or architectural it has a great visual impact. Yes details, as you and others have pointed out, are important but I think this image has enough power to cause most viewers to not see the very few short comings. Great, Great, Great. |

A great image with a great story told in his eyes and face. Looks like a happy gentleman whose had a long, fulfilling life if somewhat tough at times. Love the blurred background and the hair details. Perhaps a little less texture to subtlety soften the grittiness. Nicely done!! |

An interesting image. I like the "old" style look to it harkening back to James Dean. I think more space at the top of the image would help. It does seem that the head does not quite belong to the body with it brought forward from the shoulders. It could be the effect of a wide angle lens and being fairly close to the subject or the subject was just projecting his head too much. Overall I like the shading/coloring and the overall composition with the look back in time |

I like the composition and the dof. The comments from the other group members are all great and interesting. I do find the overall image a little too "bright" with my eye traveling to the bright negative space in the top right corner. I darkened the top right corner and then flipped the image. Not sure this is better but it reflects what I remember being taught about how we scan pages and images from an advertising course. If this still holds true we scan in a reverse "S" shape from the top left corner to the bottom right corner and tend to remember the bottom right corner. |

Nice work on improving this image from the original. The cropping and sky replacement are great. Much more dynamic than the original. |

thank you all for the comments. It is a conundrum as to taking a photo of another's art work. I was present at a local club photo competition. The judge chastised many of us for taking photos of another's art work but then judged a photo of a stain glass window and scored it very high with no denouncement of copying another's artwork. So what's best?? I've played with my photo several times using my imagination and the suggestions here. Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder, I tend to like the image best when both objects are included. Somehow, to me in my brain, they belong together. |
