Cacti are special plants and hide their beauty for special times of the year. Is this a night bloomer? Prickly Pear or Beavertail? I used to have a Night Blooming Cereus that only bloomed on full moons. I do have some Organ Pipes that are multiplying.
This brings me to the shot, the background and base look like moonlight and therefore it looks like a long exposed night shot to me. What time of day did you do this shot? Did you use any artificial light?
Another item, my eye keeps wanting to see more of the details of the flower like the stigma. It looks like a cacti in itself. The difference between a succulent and a cacti is the areole where the spines are. All cacti are succulents but not all succulents are cacti. I really like this subject.
This also is a good Wabi-Sabi shot. Beautiful and strong.

Hello and welcome to the group. Great subject for this time of year. I heard a human's eye is always drawn to the lighter colors in a picture, especially white. It's a burst from above and probably would not look right if you rotated it 180 degrees. You probably took this pic at the right time, too many of the open flowers would be too busy. Question, do you have focus bracketing on your camera. Just an idea, I'm experimenting with focus stacking at this time. |

The right place at the right time. I like the subject, lighting and especially the editing. You made the mantis really stand out and look like she has her eye on something. Is there a canopy of trees in your backyard. Looks like a nice cool place to be right now. |

Nice early morning pic. Was that before sunrise? The light is very soft and from the side. This feel like a mild summer so far. All the plants seem to be doing great this year and it shows in this close up. The dark background also enhances the colors of the petals. |

Hello, Andrew here. If you have a tripod you might look into a focus rail. $25. Then you can do the focus stacking, that is if your editing software allows it. |

Great subject for this time of year. I like the angle of the shot. Looks like the plant is well established and knows the sunlight well giving off the brilliant colors. Cacti or succulent? The leaf or petal in the front is a bit out of focus, focus bracketing and stacking might have helped in this little area. I also like the soft wood paterns in the background |

This photo catches the eye well. Sharp in the middle and soft surroundings. My eyes wants to follow the petals to the center of the subject and the reflection is very supportive. |
