Yes, you did photograph someone else's artwork. In fact, a very creative work of art. However, you looked at the art and developed your own vision of the work. Well done. I enjoy this image. |

Jim, when photographing someone else's art, the question always arises, "Have you done enough to make the resulting image your own?" In this case I tend to think that you have. Thank you for this interesting presentation. |

Very creative. Great idea to turn the flowers into a globe. I enjoy the colors you have chosen to use. |

Nice use of an unusual filter. This turns the mage ino a minimalistic image of great interest. |

I need to make one correction to an error I made in listing my process. I did not use a gradient filter, but instead used a noise gradient to create the background. |

Lance, I am beginning to see what you are saying and will admit that this image would be improved by following your crop suggestion. I believe my crop is a result of my mindset as I prepared for my trip to Israel. I had spent some years, even before I knew I would be able to make this trip, engaged in a study of the archeology of Israel. I was not interested in modern day Israel, only Israel of the Biblical period. I now believe that mindset led to my decision of the crop. It caused me to fail to view the image from an unbiased compositional perspective. Thank you. |

I do like your crop, but what I was trying to do was separate the newer structure from the ancient stairs. I know that the presence of tourists on the shoreline makes it a modern image, but I wanted to emphasize the staircase. |

This is a very interesting image. Thank you. I do feel it is a little too dark. See my suggestion of slight brightening, opening up the shadows a bit, and giving it a small amount of warming. |

Wonderful spring image. However, I agree with the suggestion to crop more closely. Of course, this choice may depend on your artistic vision. Are you presenting the bird to us, or do you consider the flowers to be a part of the subject you are presenting. Perhaps a closer crop with just enough flowers to frame the bird. |

Steven, a very well-done portrait. The crop places the baby as the unchallenged subject. he nicely unfocused background forces me to look only at the baby. The bright catchlight in the eyes brings them to life. |

Interesting suggestion. My discission on the crop was to remove the more modern building and iron work from the ancient stairs. |

Thanks. I was not consciously going for an old slide film look. I was just following an artistic approach that I felt conveyed the feeling I had when I first viewed the scene. |

What can I say? She's beautiful! Very nice conversion to B&W.
Cell phone cameras have come a long way. They can no longer be dismissed as, "not a real camera." |

As for the rock formations, these are the remains if a very old (1st. Century A.D.?) building. The rocks on the shore are a natural occurrence. Israel is a very rocky land. As for the colors in the water, the main water color is blue. The clouds are casting shadows and some of the color is coming from reflections of the hills on the other side. However, I did make the artistic choice of adding a slight magenta color overlay to the entire image that shows up in lighter areas of the image. |
