Thank you, Steven. I am glad you looked at the portrait before you read my description. Your critic is helpful. |

Once when the great photographer, Ansel Adams was asked what the most valuable piece of equipment he had in his darkroom was, he quickly answered, "My trash can." |

Cindy, thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, you can understand. It is hard to go through these experiences with our children. I am a firm believer that it is not what happens to us that shapes who we are, but how we react to what happens. My concern is that I do not pass off a mediocre image as good simply because of my emotional attachment. |

A truly nice image of this little bird. Almost, you convince me to begin photographing birds. You have well separated the bird from the background and achieved sharp focus. I like the fact I can see drops of sugar water (?) on the beak. Well done. |

Will, I really like this image. It draws me in and keeps me looking at even the smallest detail. The warm early morning light plays well with the cooler blues of the shadows which pull in the darker blue of the window shutters. The final touch is the slight flash of color added by the potted plants at the bottom. I am glad you chose the square crop and did not crop in any closer.
Why would you not have this image framed and hanging on a wall in your home or office? |

Wow! You nailed it! I have been working on a program to present to my local club on "Close-up Photography," and I know how shallow a depth of focus can be in this type of image. I can only get a close-up image this sharp with a tripod and time to plan. You did it handheld, and with little to no time for planning. |

Well done! I am sure a full color version would have been outstanding, but I really the IR. |

I agree that the main value of this image is best seen as part of a larger series of images. It is easy to take a quick look and pass on. Once I took time to really look at it, this image took on greater interest. My first thought: "What were you doing wandering around in the dark at 2:30 A.M.?"
I like the black and white. The great amount of noise (or is it added grain) is the effect that makes it work for me. |
