I did not want to leave you thinking the lens I used on this photo is less than sharp. I went back and photographed again, this time with a tripod and wireless shutter release. No post processing has been done except to export the file as a lower res. Jpeg from a raw file. Not a print I would present as "finished." |

Thank you for your helpful comments. As soon as the weather breaks here (rain for four days now) I plan to go back with the "proper equipment" and take the time to get a sharply focused image. When I photographed the present image, I was on a walk with my wife and dog. I did not carry my tripod. As Steven pointed out, the present image lacks a point of sharp focus and is soft. I know that even if I were younger, and could hold my camera rock solid, I still could not match the sharpness of a camera mounted on a sturdy tripod and with a wireless shutter release. I plan to go back again with my tripod and time to work the image set-up. |

I am sure my computer monitor is not the best, and I confess it is past time for me to recalibrate the monitor. I am also sure that your framed print is far superior to what can be seen on the computer. My observation is that the tonal values in the middle upper 2/3rds of the image are so close together that there is little separation between the bushes, the mountain, and the sky. This causes the mountain ridge to be a very minor element in the composition. I would love to see your print. Maybe some day. |

Yes, the best camera is the one you have with you, but that does not mean the one you have with you is the best camera you could have with you. For serious photography, carry the best camera for the image you hope to capture.
Yes, I have seen to rumors of the R5. It is also rumored to carry a rather stiff price tag. Out of my foreseeable budget. |

Thank you for your response and description of your post processing. I can now understand what you did. With that explanation, I can see the image in a different light. Did you do too much, or too little? I will leave that question for you, or others to answer. Good work. |

Very nice image. Good use of available window light. The image simplicity tells a story and draws me in. I like the reflection of the cup in the table glass.
Did you try moving the table more into, or out of the direct window light, or further from the wall? The brightness of the light on the right side of the image distracts my eyes from fully appreciating the table set up. |

Thanks for your comments. Yes, there a a number of things that could be changed. I try to ask myself, " what needs to be changed, and what might I change just because I can?" I don't always get the correct answer. The RP is my second Canon mirrorless. I first purchased the M50 because it's size and weight made a great camera to carry on a group tour of Israel. I purchased the RP because I wanted a FF to go with my other camera which are all crop sensors. The RP is advertised as the lightest mirrorless FF camera. At my age, I am finding weight to be more of a factor in my photography pursuits. As for the overall sharpness of this image, it may be due to my hand holding. |

Graham: Marsh reflections really draws me in. It has simple beauty to it. Perhaps it is because I can envision myself casting a fishing lure up next to the grass and anticipating the strike of a fish. The red reflections at the bottom are a bit distracting. Other than that, the overall color works well.
Shot-2 troubles me. I am unsure why. It may be that it looks so nearly perfect as to be unreal. Or, perhaps it is simply envy on my part. I would like to hear more about your post processing techniques. |

Congratulations. What a nice capture without trudging through the woods all day. You recording him/her looking directly at you. There is good catch light in the eyes that give them life. The change in background has purpose beyond saying," Look what I can do." Nice crop. All in all, Very nice. |

Yes, I set a white balance by taking a picture of the grass filling my viewfinder and used it to create a custom white balance. In live view, (if I remember right)I do see the image as it appears in my original photo as shown. I really have payed little attention to that and now have to try to remember. I do have AGE syndrome. |

Yes, my T3i is fully converted to IR 830 (Deep B&W)by LivePixel. I do not use any external filters. With the internal filter used in the conversion, I capture no color at all other than a red tent to the raw file. My images are all B&W. It might seem that this conversion is too limited in what you can do, but my interest is to use IR to achieve the best B&W I can. My adjustment set the focus compensation for use with any lens. I first use autofocus and then fine tune focus using live view and manual focus. |

Thanks for your reply. Now that I understand what you were after, I will say you did a fine job. The pattern of each leaf is much more pronounced in the IR B&W. |

Gary:
Interesting image. I truly like B&W IR. My only critic is that the image appears too dark. Could you work with the color channels to adjust the tones to show a smoother transition from the lighter tones to the darker? There needs to be more visual separation (more mid-tones) between the sun lit portions and the shadow areas. That smooth transition is more evident in the original. |

A very attractive image. You have enough of the ground to show place while focusing attention of the tree against an interesting sky. Yews, you might have risked climbing a fence, but would it improve the image. "The grass is always greener..." |
