I've been through the Palouse several times and I've always been impressed with the endless rolling hills covered by the fields of grain but I could never figure out how to capture the sense of the scene effectively. To me your photo is capturing the essence of the Poluse as it seems to accentuate the continuous rolling hills with their rows of grain. I like the way you have the two colors to complement each other and the path between the fields draw my eye into the photo. Your focus looks to be sharp in the foreground and I like how the hills and sky in the distance start to be hazy. I think the bit of color in the sky is a nice addition. |

Like Neil, I am impressed with this shot as I have never seen the Aurora. That fact creates for me a high level of interest in the photo; good job. I like the composition and I think the silhouette of the trees against the lighted provide a great sense of reference. I also think including the stars in the sky above the Aurora is a positive. Nice shot, I really like it as I do agree with Neil. |

I find this an interesting shot where you are showing the wave action on the rocks. I like that you used a fast shutter speed so that we can see the action of the waves. I consider the color contrast, with the white of the waves, blue of the water and the brown of the rocks a big plus. I think your lighting is good and I appreciate the very sharp focus.
While I think this is a very good shot I don't feel that your point of interest (the rocks) are really drawing me into a story. Perhaps that is just my bias, as I live on the Oregon coast and for me such scenes are very common. |

What strikes me most about this photo is the intensity of the warm colors as seen in the ceiling and then the reflection on the floor. Great job. Working at a site filled with tourists is always a challenge so I appreciate how you have gotten a shot down the row between the columns and most of the people are at the far end, which helps create a sense of the size. The sharp focus and color saturation is, for me, a big plus in this shot. Good Job. |

Neil, I agree with you regarding the difficulty in recording the impact of these vast vistas but I think you did a pretty good job with this one. I like how you have the wash coming in from the lower left and then leading my eye into the center of the image. I think the sharp focus for the foreground is a big plus and then you maintain good depth of field throughout. I also like how the haze increases as my eye moves into the image, giving the impression that these mountains just go on forever.
For my taste you have a bit more sky than needed so perhaps it would look better if you cropped down from the top, but still leaving some sky to show. I think that might help diminish the effect of the striations in the sky that you mention and bring more attention to the wash and surrounding mountains. |
