I like the composition a lot in the way that you have the two parts of the stream coming down and into the pool. In my opinion it provides good symmetry and, for me, nice balance to the image. I think the colors work well together and I appreciate the sharp focus and depth of field. The apparent slow shutter speed does a nice job of smoothing out the water which I think is a plus.
I agree with Dawn in that I think the lighting on the tree in the back gives it a bit too much exposure while I think the the sides, and especially the lower corners could use more exposure.

Dawn, I like what you have done with the sky, thank you. And I understand where you are coming from regarding the "yellow" of the rocks and ground however that is pretty close to what it actually looked like, and I can only imagine what it would look like on a sunny summer day.
p.s. This is the most popular cliff climbing location in Oregon. |

Two things stand out for me with this photo, the composition and the way the colors work together and highlight the image. And from a technical point of view I think you did a great job HDR blending of the two photos. The sharp focus and depth of field are, in my opinion, spot on and I agree with Paul regarding the detail you are showing. I think the contrasting colors work very well and the lines of the features in the ice draw my eye into the center of the image nicely.
I would like to see a bit more detail in the sky at the notch of the mountains and a bit more detail in the dark area along the shore. Considering the exposure range I can see how difficult that could be. Perhaps if you took a couple more images to combine in your HDR blending, but that is beyond my range of skills |

Great shot Darcy, and one could say a bit lucky as that part of Alaska doesn't often get clear skies like that. I like the composition with the highest peak on the left and then they trail off to the right. I agree with Paul in that you have cleared up the haze nicely. I think your focus is good and the lighting works well. I would like to see just a little bit more detail in the tree line along the edge of the water. |

This is a VERY interesting photo and it captures my attention both because it is well done photographically AND it is from a perspective that I had never thought of. I especially like photos that make me think, and this does that! I like your composition with the brighter portion of light coming from the center of the frame, along with the bit of the city building shapes in the lower right corner. For me, this really contrasts well with the dark sky above.
I don't live in the San Francisco Bay area any more, but if I did I be going to the top of Mt. Diablo (SF East Bay) some dark night to see what I might be able to do. Neil, what do you think.
Great job Jay. |

As always I look at your B&W photos with a bit of awe and envy. I agree with Neil in how you have lots of sharp detail and high contrast. I like how you use a fast shutter speed to keep the ripples in the water very apparent. I also appreciate the tight composition which, for my eye, forces me into the scene to see the person on the bridge. I like it. |

Having lived next to Martinez for over 40 years I really do appreciate this scene, as I've viewed it many time. I like the way you have caught the sense of the rolling hills, and of course the green of the spring time looks a lot better than the brown of August. For me the clouds in the sky really help make this an interesting photo as I they compliment the rolling hills. I think the focus and composition are good in creating a sense of the place.
I think you could have a little more exposure, particularly for the hills on the far left and the marsh grass. I also think you could have cropped up from the bottom a bit, showing less marsh grass which in my opinion would bring more emphasis on the hills. |
