I like your use of high key color and contrast with the imposing sky and the silhouette of the tree and eagles against it. For me it creates a very dramatic image. I think you have made very good use of the lighting and I like your composition with the positioning of the branch with the eagles a bit off to the right. I really like it. |

Mark, the artistic content of your photos always "blows me away". I think this is a GREAT study in the use of light to create strong feelings. I really like the simplicity of the image with a single item of interest and the way you have it highlighted. I really like that you have presented it in B&W. The composition works well for me with the rock set off to the side, the simple straight lines and with just enough content in the clouds. I'd expect to see this hanging in a very expensive gallery. |

I think this is a good photo because of the high interest that the wedged rock creates. It makes me ask questions like - How long has it been there? Is it safe to walk under it? etc. For me you did a great job with the HDR exposure and I like the impact of the high key coloring. The way you have positioned yourself to have the line of the steps leading my eye up to the bolder is, I think, a good composition. I also like the sharp focus with everything in focus from front to back. |

When I first look at a photo I try to sense "what kind of feeling does this photo give me?". And I like the warm comfortable feeling of relaxing in peaceful environment that I get from your image. Nice job. I think the tiered water falling is great and creates a nice primary interest point. I like the way you have the falls framed by the grasses and reeds on each side as well as the surrounding green. For me the colors are low key and I like the way they add to the peaceful scene. I think your focus is good, but not too sharp and helps keep the scene on the soft side.
I wonder if cropping a bit from the right side to center the falls in the frame might add to the image. |

I like your composition with the rocks on each side providing a frame for the water which is coming into the center of the image and keeping my attention. I also appreciate your use of shutter speed to smooth the water out but still leaving some detail so we get a sense of the action created by the waves.
For me the haze on the ridge line for the sky, on the left side is a bit distracting and I wonder if any "dehazing" might help. I also wonder if you could have brought out a little more detail in the clouds. |

I like what you have done with this shot George. I appreciate your composition with the arch of the mountains being complimented the arch of the Milky Way. I think the textured surface in the foreground works great and helps, in my opinion, to accentuate the mountains and sky. The lighting works well for me and I like that there is detail in the shadows and the highlights. I've never tried to photograph the Milky Way but this encourages me to give it a try. |

Paul,
This spot is about 130 miles from the coast and 55 miles from the Columbia Gorge. Oregon east of the Cascades is a whole different world than the coast and I-5 corridor. Go further south east and it's even more desert like and you can find areas of black lava beds that are quite large. Although I love living on the coast Eastern Oregon fascinates me and I will be going back to get more photos.
And by the way, shortly after I took this shot we found ourselves driving through a heavy snow storm, and that was on May 23. |
