The first thing that gets my attention is the vibrance of the colors along with the contrast they create. Next I like how you captured the dynamic impact of the waves with your use of shutter speed. I agree that the sharp focus works well.
I think you have good composition however I am distracted by the cutting off of the tops of the trees on the right, and in my opinion I think cropping in a bit from the left might help the overall image. Still I think it's a great shot (and I get to see a lot of Pacific waves crashing). |

Interesting composition, which I like, and I applaud you for stretching your bounds. I agree with the others in that it makes me think about going on a trip to Europe. Never having done anything like this I'm not sure how to critique it. I like your choice of colors and how they compliment each other. I also think it works well in the you have the coliseum in the foreground and with good focus and then you seem to have the map fading in on it. I think it shows good technique. Nice image and it does hold my attention. |

Mark, to me this is just another one of your great "dramatic" shots that you seem to make as if they are ordinary. But I know they are anything but ordinary. When I look at this photo, as well as so many of your others, I find myself unable to think about the technical issues as the scene is so captivating (in my mind it's a good photo when I only see the content). The scene if very impressive and I like your composition with the curve lines of the stream which is framed and constrained by the high cliffs on either side. I also like the way the colors of the bleak rocks work in contrast with the green of the surrounding moss. And for me your cropping helps make everything stand out even more. |

I like the sense of serenity that this photo creates for me. I think the flock of birds and the fish sculpture in the water make an interesting and contrasting pair of subjects. I also like the subdued lighting which for me enhances the atmosphere. In my opinion the silhouette with the touch of color does work better than a B&W would. Great shot |

Great shot, I really like it. At first I was wondering why you came to the Oregon Coast and didn't try and contact me but then I realized, while this is a lot like our coastal forests, it is a bit more lush and dense than our typical scene.
I like your composition with the path leading my eye to the spider like fern that is framed by the arch of the trees. I also like what you've done with the exposure to bring out the fern more, making it your prime interest point while darkening the trees in the foreground to have the fern stand out more. It seems to my eye that you did some saturation of the greens which I think add to the photo. I really can't find any non-positive elements of this photo.
Now I have to go wandering through our Oregon Coastal forest to see if it's possible to get a shot anywhere near as good as this - probably not. |

Paul, I agree with you regarding my positioning however I was up to my ankles in water to take this shot and if I moved much to the left I would have been up to my knees and there were notable sneaker waves to be worried about. Just a few of the problems to deal with when shooting here on the coast. |
