93 Nov 23 Reply Thanks for the comments Dawn. I was surprised to learn about this too but it was mentioned in an environmental history book on the Columbia River so I decided to stop by on a trip my wife and I were taking to Boise.

When I was doing my post processing I forgot to mask out the sky area so when I was increasing the exposure for the stones it worked on the whole image and over exposed the sky. I won't be so thoughtless next time. My processing steps are a bit different that the rest of you because my computer runs on a Linux system so I use a Linux based photo editor called DarkTable. It doesn't do layers but it can do pretty much what you can do in LR, but in a different way and it has a steeper learning curve - and I still have a lot to learn.

93 Nov 23 Comment One of the things I always like about your photos Mark is that they always seem to display the power of nature, and this is for me another one of those. I like the way you have zeroed in on an area where we just see the "chaos" created by the falling water while by not showing us the entire scene you allow our imaginations to fill in the blanks. I also agree with the others that this is better as a B&W shot.

93 Nov 23 Comment I find this a captivating photo with the expression on the woman's face and the way she has her hands positioned to ward you off. It make me ponder about what is she afraid of. I think the lighting from the fire coming up from the bottom of the frame is very good, but I agree actual white areas from the flame is a distraction. For me the focus is sharp but not "super sharp" which adds to the impact of the image. I think this is a good example of street photography. Nov 24th
93 Nov 23 Comment I like the composition in that you have done a close-up of just a couple leaf cluster. This has me concentrating on the texture and colors of the individual leafs and it really creates in my mind the thought of late autumn. I appreciate the black space above the leaves in the center as for me it provides a sense of depth to the image. I think this is a great close-up study. Nov 22nd
93 Nov 23 Comment I like the way you have captured the shape and texture of the dunes with your use of lights and shadows. I think the contrast with the light and dark areas really make this image. The line of the ridge of the dune works well in drawing my eye into the frame and wants me to linger and look at it more. (It's also an accomplishment to get a dune picture without foot prints some where). Overall I think this is a great photo Nov 22nd
93 Nov 23 Comment I like the composition with the stream flowing diagonally across the frame and with the green of the grass framing each side. For me this is a nice study in the contrast of textures and color. The lighting looks good to me however I think the focus might benefit from being a bit sharper with more depth of field. Nov 18th
93 Nov 23 Comment Great shot of the bridge Neil. I've been to that location many times myself but I've not been able to get such a nice image. I think the coloring is great with the way the sunset is highlighting the unique "orange" paint job of the bridge and I like the way you have incorporated the SF skyline for the background. The clouds help provide interest for the upper part of the image however I think the extra haze on the left of the skyline is a bit distracting (but knowing how the fog can dominate the Bay Area I can understand how you couldn't eliminate it. The very top of the tower has been cut off which I think is a bit distracting. I also wonder if cropping a bit from the left and putting the tower on the left "rule of thirds" line might make the photo a bit more dramatic. Nov 18th
