Another one of your great B&W shots that make me work harder at mine, and for me a positive on this one in the way it tells a story with the kids playing in the water. Your use of a high shutter speed works well for me in the way you have captured the falling water droplets. I agree with your increasing of the contrast. I like the composition with the action in the center of the frame and the background of the shopping center is a nice addition. Good Job.
P.S. Wouldn't CooperSmith's be in line to serve some "high Desserts" to end a meal? |

Not to question your mother's judgement, but I'd label this as "AGS" (Another Great Sunset). What stands out for me is your good use of the high contrast colors. I like that you have enough blue in the water to work well with the orange color of the sky above it. I like your composition in the way you have the sun off center which, for me, provides a more vast feeling of the ocean. I agree with Jeffrey and Paul regarding the colors that you have captured, and for me that is what makes this photo. |

Great back yard, and the way you have photographed it anyone would want to visit. For me this is a nice relaxing image which captures the sense of a peaceful winter scene. I think the composition is good with the rocks and shrub in the center creating a nice interest point and the rest of the scene complimenting it. I also appreciate your lighting moving from the brighter right side to a bit more subdued left side of the frame as my eye approaches the interest point. I like your presented version better than the cropped versions as I think it provide more context for the overall scene.
It may be just my eyes but the overall image seems to have a bit of noise, but then that may be a result of the texture of the snow. |

My hat is off to you for taking on a difficult challenge, and I think you've done OK with it. I've never tried that (but here on the Oregon coast we don't get very many lightning storms) and because I've never tried this I'm not in a good position to critique your work.
I think you made a good selection with your cropping and I like the sharp detail you have on the lightning bolt and the threads coming off of it. The illumination of the clouds below it work well for me.
I wonder if in post processing you might have been able to increase the exposure slightly of the ground on the lower portion of the image, just a little, so we could see a bit more detail. |

Gee Dawn, last month it was Mark and now this month it is you who presents a great mountain photo that takes me back to you younger years (much younger) when my buddies and I would try to find our way up mountains like that. I think it is a good photo that can bring out such emotions in the viewer.
I like your composition with the two buttresses in the foreground that help to frame and bring my eye up to the main peak. Your focus look very sharp to me and that helps to see all the detail in the rocks and snow lines (which for an old climber are critical details). I think the lighting and shadows work well with the sun giving the face a warmer impression while the left side in the shadows highlights the colder more foreboding aspects of the mountain.
I am guilty of letting my past experiences influence my review of the photo instead of just a detached critical analysis - but isn't a great photo judged by its ability to draw the viewer in emotionally. For me this photo does that. Great job. |

I like your composition with the close tower being centered and thus for my eye being the primary interest point. It is close enough that there is good detail visible which highlights its size. Having the wall come in from the right to bring my eye to the central tower is, in my opinion, a positive and then the rest of the wall creates lines that take my view back into the rest of the photo. The additional towers in the background, and especially the ones on the tops of the hills, for me really shows the large size of the wall. I also think the bit of cloud in the sky is a nice touch. And I agree with Paul and Darcy about the dehazing. |
