I think this is a great waterfall shot. It makes me feel a bit guilty because there are lots of picturesque waterfalls close to where I live and I haven't gotten any shots that could "measure up". In my opinion the way you have cropped and your composition is spot on and I like the way you have captured the way the water meanders down to the bottom of the frame. I think you made a good choice with your shutter speed in that I like the way is smooths out the water while still keeping a sense of motion in the water. It appears that you have overcast lighting which I think helps make this a relaxing image. Great job. |

I find this to be an interesting photo with the steam coming off the thermal flow juxtaposed in front of the green forest. As with pretty much all of your photos I find that the technical aspects are done VERY well with good focus and depth of field along with nice color contrasts. I like your composition with the line of the thermal flow coming down across the image in a diagonal line.
After reading your description I see where this is a good image in recording a unique physical place. However, from an artistic viewpoint I don't see a specific item of interest that draws my eye into the photo. Because of that the image, while nice to view, doesn't hold my interest. |

I think this is a great shot and what catches my attention most is the dramatic contrasting of colors with the intense color of the foliage sandwiched in between the blues and whites of the sky and mountains above and the rushing water below. I think the way you have combined the elements makes for a great composition, along with the elements noted by Mark. I also agree with Paul regarding your focus, exposure, saturation, etc. In my mind this is an award winning photo. |

My first reaction is another one of your great B&W's. I keep thinking one day I'll get there with my photos and then you keep raising the bar. First, in my mind this makes me thing of what this scene might have been in the past and why it seems to be abandoned now (I really appreciate photos that make me think of a story). I agree with Jeffery about the clouds and for me how they contribute to a sense of depression for the scene. I like your composition with the with the paint worn buildings in the foreground and then the curving tracks leading my eye away from them (like time has lead people away). I think you did a great job with exposure and contrast to strengthen the story. |

Last month you suggested that my Seattle photo should be used by their tourist board; however with this photo of New York I think you've done me one better. I really like this shot. You really show off the skyline against the nice blue sky and the river in the foreground in my opinion helps to accentuate that skyline. I like the way the bridge cuts across the image as if leading my eye into the city. I think your lighting and exposure are done well and, for me, the tack sharp focus adds a lot the the sense of depth for the scene and I also like the way is brings out a lot of detail. I think your color image is great, and I also like the B&W rendition that Mark did. |

I find this image very intriguing as I had never seen a landscape like this before. It raises lots of questions in my mind; like how did those tall narrow spires develop, and how do those trees survive in that location; and for me the more a photo makes me think the better I believe the photo to be - with that in mind this is a great photo. I think the composition is well done and choosing to use a portrait orientation helps, in my opinion, to accentuate the narrowness of the spires. I also like the color contrast with the browns of the rocks against the scattered green of the trees.
At first I had a negative reaction to the haze/mist in the photo until I read your description and then following up on the internet where it highlighted the spires coming up from the mist. Now that I'm informed I'm glad that you kept the mist as an important part of the image.
