Like the rest of the group I very much like your creativity in having the photo in B&W except for the umbrella. I think the high key and contrasting colors of the umbrella bring my eye right to it. I appreciate the composition by having the umbrella off to the right so my eye can also take in the rest of the beach scene. To me your focus is nice and sharp which helps bring out the detail and I think you have a good level of contrast, especially in the B&W area. Great job. |

I must agree with the others as I think this is a really great shot. I specifically agree with Neil in that I think you have captured the immensity and impact of the scene. I like the use of light and shadows, the high contrast in the colors and the way you have the light coming in from the upper left, which for me has my eye drawn into the canyon in the foreground while still having the canyons in the background in view. I think you did a great job with the exposure bracketing. |

I like the pastoral setting of this photo and the way in which the cabin is sitting on the side of the hill. For me it creates a nice relaxing scene. The soft low contrast use of color works for me and I appreciate the way the slope of the tree line in the upper left mirrors the slope of the hill.
I find that the cabin seems to be leaning down is a bit distracting and perhaps it might look better if the image was rotated so that the cabin deck and roof like were level. |

I think this is one of your great (normal) artistic shots and for me it creates a nice sense of peaceful scene. The cool colors are, in my opinion, key contributors to that sense. I like the way you have the rough, solid cliffs on the left side of the frame and they open up to the soft clouds and sea. Finally I applaud the way you have made the surf appear so smooth. |

I think this is a very good portrait of the horse and, for me, evokes a significant level of interest. Having the horse looking straight on to the camera is a positive in my opinion and I like the way you use the lighting to create a sense of depth. The focus look tack sharp and I like the way it allow for seeing all the details.
I would like to see just a bit more lighting on the ears and left side of the face, not a lot but just enough so we could see more detail.
(p.s. I consider you a serious photographer however it is nice to see that you can horse around when the situation calls for it). |

I agree with Paul about this being a great shot. I like the way the light on the rain makes it standout in the photo along with the darkness of the clouds surrounding it. I think your choice of B&W is great with the high level of contrast making the photo more dramatic. I also think the sharp focus is a positive.
In my opinion I would like to see a bit more detail in the hills. I see a dark spot on the right side a little more than half way up which I find distracting. |

Paul, what you see in the foreground are the remnants of old fishing and lumber piers, that stopped being used a long time ago. And yes there is a story behind it which is the history of Florence (when you decide to take a photo shoot trip to the Oregon Central Coast we can talk about if over a good bottle of wine).
And yes, that shot of Stephanie's is great. She is a well established and accomplished photographer living here in Florence. You can check some of her photos on https://www.backstreetgallery.org/stephanie-ames She is a retired teacher and is just great at helping people like me to get better at photography. She is active in our camera club and I've gotten lots of help from her, both in running the club and in taking better pictures. |
