Thanks for your observations Mark, I'll pay more attention to my aperture in the future (I'm too used to shooting in dense forests) and I like your cropping better than my original. |

What makes this photo for me is the intense use of the red/brown color and I think it is very effective. I like the composition with the rocks dominating the foreground against the negative space of the empty sky while the presence of the moon provides a highlighted point. The focus looks good to me with nice depth of field
In my opinion the lighting on the upper portion of the rocks is a little overexposed and if it was toned down a bit we could see more detail.
Overall, I think this is a great photo and a good first effort as you join our group. |

My first comment is that photography is used to tell a story, and it can be an important story for our times; and I appreciate that you are doing that Paul.
I like the close cropping on the buildings which keeps the focusing on their damaged nature. You statement that the photo was taken more than 20 years after the damage was done, in my mind, emphasize the negative aspects of war and supports the story you are telling. For me I like the way the colors work together and help intensify the sense of damage. I also think the dark clouds add to the mood of the photo. Great job in telling a story.

As I stated previously when I evaluate a photo I first consider the artistic impact that it has on me and go from there. Again Mark, you out did yourself from an artistic perspective. I very much appreciate the "mood" you have created with this photo and, from my perspective all the elements of this photo contribute to the creating of that "mood". Because of that I can't identify any of the technical areas that I can see as needing modification. Great job.
I really appreciate the detailed reply you gave to Neil as it helps me understand what went into taking this photo, and from that helps me learn how to take better photos myself.

I appreciate your use of high contrast with the well lighted entrance to the tunnel compared to the dark portion inside the tunnel. I think the focus is nice and sharp with good depth of field and I like the way it brings out the detail in the rocks. I agree with the cropping above eliminating the pavement in front of the tunnel.
In my opinion the foliage in the upper right is a bit over exposed while I think the inside of the tunnel would benefit from a bit more exposure to help bring out more detail. |

Several things about this photo really stand out for me. First is the way the colors work together and compliment each other. Next is what I see as sharp focus and great depth of field. Then I am impressed with the layering of rocks in the foreground, then the lake, followed by the forests and finally the mountains and sky with the setting sun. I see all these elements as tying well together for a GREAT photo. |
