I sort of agree with you Kelly, however in the past I've been very impressed with the B&W that Paul does and now and then I try and see if I have something that isn't too bad. |

For me, the heavy clouds and the dark aura they impart on the image generates in my mind an interesting sense of foreboding, perhaps for an incoming storm. I see a lot of detail in the shadow areas which, in my opinion, adds to the mode of the scene. The focus appears soft to my eye, which I also think is a plus. I like what Mark has done however I still like your posted image a bit better and I think is highlights the effect of HDR more. |

Mark, I always consider your photos a pleasure to look at; and by showing the "before" images and describing how you made the final image I am even more impressed with your work and the fact that your efforts always teach me something.
I like the composition with the way you have the river "walled-in" through the center of the image and then having that strong light reflection on the river itself. For me the colors work well together with high contrast, which I like, and I see your focus and detail that you brought out in the canyon walls as being done very well.
I think our group is lucky to have you as a member. |

This photo works well for me in B&W as I believe there is nice tonal contrast with the rock and tree. I like the composition in the way the tree comes up from the bottom and draws my eye with it and brings in the detail of the rock.
I don't perceive enough separation of the tree and rock to make either one stand out as the primary item of interest. I don't know if you were able to move to the right so the tree would be against the sky while the rock would make up the right side of the image (sometimes when taking pics in these types of areas you have to be part mountain goat to get the best positioning). There is a dark section of the rock in the lower center which, for my taste, doesn't include any detail which I see as empty space that doesn't help the image. |

I like the way you have used high contrasting light and motion to convey the "sense of excitement" that characterizes a state fair. I think the fact that the sign in the middle is static allows for a sharp focus and provides a stable center item that, in my mind, accentuates the motion around it. However I do agree with Mark that positioning the YOYO sign off center does add more interest to the photo. |

I think this is a well composed panorama. I like that you have the slough completely in the image, including the grass section on the bottom. The focus looks really sharp to me with good depth of field. I appreciate the detail that the clouds add to the sky and I think it's an extra plus that some of them are reflected in the water. Great Job |

Mark, I really appreciate the detail and specificity of your comments. Reading them is like getting a lesson in an aspect of photography and I always benefit from them. Thanks
I had taken these shots for a assignment in a PSA course I'm taking and the instructor really doesn't want us to do much post processing. This assignment has us taking the same shot with both a fast and slow shutter speed. |
