93 Sep 21 Comment As far as types of landscapes go Michael, I think you and I could make a pair of bookend extremes; you with the open arid expanses of the inter-mountain West, and me with with the lush dense Pacific Northwest forests. That sharp difference with what I have to choose for subjects makes your photos that much more interesting to me.

I like the color bands in the photo with the blue of the sky, reds of the rocks and the the green/brown of the shrub in the foreground. I think the contrast is good and adds to the image and allows me to see the detail in the rocks. I also like that you have good exposure throughout the scene along with good depth of field. I hadn't thought about it until Mark's comment but the idea of cropping from the top and bottom to make more of a panorama with pretty much just the rocks sounds very interesting.

93 Sep 21 Comment As always Paul your B&W's captivate my attention and project a standard that someday I hope I can reach with B&W. I like the composition of the photo with the tight crop on the exposed roots and the twisted branches. The side lighting works well for me as I see it helping to bring out more detail in the wood as a result of the contrast. I think the dark clouds in the sky help in adding a somber mood to the photo.

In my opinion the bottom half could have a little more light which I think would help to bring out greater contrast.

93 Sep 21 Comment I really like the aesthetic aspect of this photo. There is, in my opinion, good use of negative space and I like the way the curving line draws my eye up through the image. I think the shrub on the bottom works well to provide a item of interest (however I do appreciate the editing that Darcy did).

I am not comfortable with the way the grasses on the upper part of the image has been cut off. As the ridge line takes my eye up to that area I believe the photo would be helped if it would lead to a specific item of interest.

93 Sep 21 Reply Your comments are well received. I did take multiple shots including those where I focused in just on the rusting barge and the old dredge. I'm not sure which view I like best but this one pleased me because it brings in more of the modern houses on the shore in the background. And I am giving my other shots serious consideration. 93 Sep 21 Reply Darcy, I like what Michael did to bring out more contrast. With that I can retract my statement about lack of of a single point of interest; Michael's changes help, for me, to make the vastness more predominate. Sep 19th
93 Sep 21 Comment I think this photo effectively conveys the sense of vastness in the scene. I believe that having the grassy hillside and shrubs help provide a sense of depth. I also like the use of colors that compliment each other as opposed to contrast.

For me I don't identify a primary focal point in the picture. The ridge of hills coming in from the left draw my eye into the photo but then I don't see them pointing to anything. My eye perceives the entire scenes as being a bit "washed out". I like the greater definition of the clouds that is in the original works better for me.

93 Sep 21 Comment As usual, I think you've done a great job Jerry. I like the simplicity of the composition which brings my attention right to the web. I think the focus on the web and the twig holding it is spot on and the blurred background works really well for me. I like the way the lighting allows for some of the moisture droplets to reflect different colors. And while I like what you have done, I also like the cropping and flipping that Mark has shown. 93 Sep 21 Comment Glad to have you in the group Kelly. In looking at your photo and your description of what you went through to take it I'm sure you are going to be a positive contributor. I like the composition with the leaves forming a border on each side and the waterfall coming down on a diagonal. I appreciate your choice of shutter speed so that you have the water showing a sense of movement. Having toned down the intensity a bit so that it isn't as high key as the original works well for me. I think the focus and depth of field are good with nice detail showing throughout the frame. Nice Job. Sep 11th
