I very much like the way you have caught the detail of the texture of the burl, and especially of the "face". For me this creates as image with lots of interest and things to study in it. I like the composition in the way you have positioned the "face" above the mass in the lower section. I think the lighting is well balanced without high contrasting areas and for me it encourages studying the texture. I can say the same thing about the focus with what I see as everything being nice and sharp so all the detail and texture is apparent. Good job, I like it. |

I like the interest this photo creates with the well lighted faces against the dark background. The composition with the faces slightly off center works well for me and I like that the lighting insists that my eye stay on the carved images. I alos appreciate that you have included enough of the scene so that we get an impression of the size of the work.
In my opinion I agree with Mark that background is a bit too dark and I like what he did to bring out just a bit more color in the sky and make the top of the mountain more defined. |

From my perspective "What's not to like" with this photo. The way the partial eclipse is presented creates for me a high level of interest and has me questioning "how did you do that". I like the way the elements of the sky, sun, hills, water and rocks in the foreground work together to make for a peaceful scene I believe the slight haze is a positive in adding to a sense of overall calm. I also like the presence of the sun's rays spreading out from the eclipse. The way the colors work together are another positive element of the photo that I think is worthy of comment. In my opinion this photo has great composition and technical execution. I really like it. |

I like the composition of this photo with the close cropping and filling the frame with the contents of the bowl and the arrangement of the corn, shrimp and potatoes works, in my opinion, very well. The way you have intensified the warm colors, from the bright exposure on the corn to the dark section in the lower right is also a strong positive for me. It makes me just want to start eating! In addition I like the way you have used the filters to make it seem more like a painting than a photo.
I agree with Jerry that this could be considered more of a "still life" and while our group is listed as " . . . scapes" I have come to consider all of you great -photo friends- and I truly enjoy being able to view all of your work. You all inspire me to get out of my comfort zone and try different things.
Great job Paul. |

The composition works well for me and I like the contrast created by the color difference between the heron and egret. I also like the way you caught both birds looking in the same direction. I think the background colors work well to highlight the birds. Overall the lighting looks good to me except that the egret seems a bit over exposed. I like the photo. |

NOTE TO EVERYONE:
I screwed up and attached bottom two paragraphs on Mark's description by mistake ("Shot on a Canon R% at the low. . . a bit more red into the sunlight). Unfortunately once I hit post and it's accepted I can't go back and change it.
Mark, please accept my apology. |

Mark, I did think about cropping out the tree on the right, but I didn't like the way that side then didn't have boundary so I left it in. I didn't have a lot of time to compose the scene; I just walked around a curve in the trail to this clearing in the trees and there they were. I had to shoot what I could get. |
