For me the composition and the color contrast make this image stand out. I think the grayish white of the ice complements well with the bluish white colors of the Heron and then the browns of the dry reeds in the background create a good contrast. It also helps, in my opinion that your blurring of the background helps the heron stand out. You've captured a profile image of the heron and I like that you have him positioned off center to the left and have him looking to the right. The focus look very sharp to me.
It seems to my eye that the chin area just below his eye looks a little bit overexposed.
For me, this is a really great picture. |

I think this photo is very well done artistically. I like the composition in the way you've positioned the moon to one side and then have "Jerry's" geese silhouetted against it and moving into the open space on the other side of the frame. What also strikes me positively is the color you used for the sky and the way it softens the image while letting the moon and "Jerry's" geese stand out. |

The contrasting textures of the foliage at the water's edge and the smoothness of the water work well together for me. The lighting and focus on the foreground seem, for me, to be OK.
My tastes are such that the color photo works better for me. I think the background is a bit too dark so that the deck you are trying to highlight really doesn't show up much. There are also a couple of brown spots on the rock at the water's edge in the center of the frame that I consider distracting. |

Jerry, I've checked out your collection of waterfall pics. Great work. There are lots of waterfalls where I live (you would expect that with 70+ inches of rain a year) and I've tried to see if I could get any good pics. Now you have shown me a standard I need to work my way up to. |

This picture is, in my opinion, a great example of the value you add to our group and why we're all glad you are getting better and continue contributing. (By the way, if there is a day or two when you're not up to posting a pic I've found your website with lots of GREAT photos and I'll make sure we keep seeing samples of your work).
For me this is a very good sample of using colors and contrast to make a great image. I like the way you have alternating bands of color in the sky with the blues of the clouds along with the orange/yellow bands where the sun comes through. the way you have just enough of the horizon line to help me get a sense of perspective. And the blurring works well for me in creating a good sense of texture. |

I consider this a very captivating photo, and I like it. The composition is done well in my opinion with the tree as the main interest point and positioned on the left side which I see as leaving lots of open space to the right which highlights the tree. I think you've incorporated lots of simplicity in the image which helps to keep my eye on the tree. The colors work well for me with the subdued clouds which are complimented with the same colors in the glass like surface of the water and I like the way you have them separated with the band of orange from the sun. The long exposure is, I think very effective in creating a great texture for this image. |

You're right Paul. We do get a bit of rain here, about 75 inches a year. But on the upside, I don't have to shovel rain off my driveway. :) |
