93 Dec 20 Reply On the 9th Jerry posted a update on how his surgery wet, it's in the comments section for his "photo". sounds like his surgery went well, no extra problems, and now he's in recovery mode. That's all I know. Dec 18th
93 Dec 20 Comment I like the composition of the image as you have the center of the Joshua tree being the primary interest point and the radiating branches help draw my eye into that center. I think this is enhanced with the symmetrical composition of the photo. In my opinion cropping up from the bottom also helps as you have eliminated negative space that I think isn't necessary. For me the contrast with the sun on the outside needles work well against the darker interior of the plant. And of course the addition of the clouds and moon I see as a very positive coup de grace.

I do think the center of the tree is a bit dark and could, perhaps, be improved with a little bit more exposure.

93 Dec 20 Comment I am positively impressed with the mood that this image creates. I really like the sharp silhouette of the mountains against the sky juxtaposed with their soft reflection on the water. I think the different shades of blues between the water and sky really add to the impression created. And for me, having your wife silhouetted on the near shore is a positive in giving a reference point relative to the perspective of the scene. Nice job, I like it. Dec 16th
93 Dec 20 Comment I like the composition of your photo with the staircase of waterfalls down the center of the frame with the trees forming a border on each side. I also think your cropping from the original is positive.

For my taste, I'm not comfortable with the bright yellow leaves in the bottom left corner because, for me, they obscure too much of the water fall. To my eye the focus is a bit soft as I would like to sharper depth of field throughout.

Overall I get the impression that the terrain made it difficult to find a good position for a shot, and with that said I'm impressed with what you are able to do with it.

93 Dec 20 Comment For me the intense reds, oranges and yellows of the fall leaves are what make this picture. I think your focus and depth of field are very good which helps bring out some of the detail of the foliage. I especially like the way the branches of the tree in the foreground seem, in my eye, to be accentuated.

I think the red of the leaves in the center are a bit over saturated and I seem to perceive a bit of over exposure in the yellows of the trees across the street.

93 Dec 20 Comment For me this is a good example of the variety of desert colors, with the reds of the rocks, greens of the foliage, and blues of the sky and water. I like the way you have "layered" the colors with the river, then the close vegetation, then the scrub vegetation, followed by the rocks and finishing with the sky. I think the composition is good with the diagonal lines drawing my eye to a point below the Watchman helping to make it the primary point of interest. I also like the effect of the long exposure in blurring the reflection in the water and keeps the Watchman a primary point. Great shot, what's not to like Dec 13th
93 Dec 20 Reply As luck would have it Paul it turns out that the truck is on the property and owned by the neighbor of my dental hygienist. She told me that the owner had a small local road building / construction business that used lots of heavy equipment and that was a tanker truck he brought to his construction sites (note the hose and reel on top of the truck). She wasn't sure if was for fuel or water. Dec 7th
