Dan, this image has me convinced that you see your photography as an art form as compared to just taking good pictures. Compositionally I like the way you have combined the lines and shapes to draw my eye to the stone in the center as a point of interest. I think the focus is good which shows nice sharp lines with good detail in the sandstone. I'm not sure if the graininess I see is the texture of the sandstone or a bit of noise, but it works great for me the way it is. I think the colors work VERY well together and I like that you don't seem to have made them too intense.
I perceive some vignetting on the corners, especially the lower corners which I am not fully comfortable with - but that's just me as I haven't spent much time working with vignetting.
Really, in my opinion, a great picture. |

I find this photo very relaxing as it creates for me a "misty" mood with the clouds and overcast lighting. I think the muted greens work well in establishing the soft mood and the foliage of the trees combine to create a nice texture for the overall picture.
I agree with Dan in regards to cropping above the clouds so that they become the top of the image instead of a line through the image. For me the eagle on the tree in the foreground is a distraction from texture and color balance of the image. It is not large enough nor stand out enough to present itself as a point of interest and I don't think the coloring and texture blend in with the rest of the image in a complimentary way. I do think it is a good picture, it's just that my initial impression is looking at it from an unusual perspective. |

What's not to like about this photo. I think the composition is good with the cluster of balloons in the center along with the two higher balloons creating a point of interest. For me the lighting is excellent with the early morning sun creating shadows which I think help provide texture and definition to the ground below. I see the focus as being sharp throughout and the colors balance well for me. I find the haze in the distance a little distracting but I don't see how that could be avoided; could you have ben able to reduce the haze a bit in post processing? Great shot. |

Michael, your photo leaves a very relaxing impression on me. I like the composition with the curved lines of the meandering stream down the center which pulls my view into the frame and back toward the mountains. The symmetric balance works well for me and I like that the clouds add interest to the upper part of the frame. I see the focus as being good with sharp detail and depth of field throughout. I also this the colors and lighting work well together.
You've inspired me to go out and find some streams around here that aren't deep in a forest and see what kind of images I can produce. I like it. |

I find the colors very interesting and attractive to me. I'm not sure I can see a primary point of interest however I am thinking that this image is more about color and texture so in that regard it works well for me. I do find the dark redish element in the lower left corner distracting and therefore I agree with Jerry's crop. |

I like the composition as the line of the dock leads my eye from the right side out along the dock to where the sun is and then the light of the reflection drops down highlighting on the water. I also like the way the wet sand sharpens the reflection. I think the long exposure smooths out the surf and, for me, adds a nice sense of mood to the image. I also think the positioning of the image was done very well and you have made great use of negative space.
I like both color presentations but I am more moved by the mood set by your original image. Great job Jerry |
