Michael, You have a great picture for a start with the group. Being the last to comment makes it easy as I can just say the "I agree with them" but it's more difficult to come up with new insights. I like the bright colors and contrast but I agree with Paul in regards to the saturation. The balanced rock is, for me, a great point of interest and I like the overall composition. I do believe the shrubbery on the bottom take up too much of the frame and distracts from your main point of interest. Also in your original image that shrubbery forces the rock too high up. I have taken the liberty to crop the bottom of your picture for your consideration. All said I do think this is a good picture. |

Paul, Looking at your pictures is making me think about trying some of my work in B/W. I think you do a great job with it. I like the symmetrical composition as it relates to your point of interest (the cactus in the foreground). I think your lighting is very good in that you highlight the interior of the leaves and then have shadows on the underside of the lower leaves which provides good contrast. Because you have kept the background cactus in the top right with shadow lighting it is not a distraction for me. I also like your use of depth of field as the point of interest cactus has sharp focus while the background cacti are slightly out of focus, thus keeping our attention on the point of interest. I'll not complain about you showing us B/W images, I'll just learn from you and hopefully some day try it myself. |

The bright colors of this image has a positive impact for me with the rock formations in the center providing a strong point of interest. I like the composition with the point of interest set a bit to the side and about two thirds up from bottom, (applying the rule of thirds). I think the intense colors of the buttes are well balanced with the browns in the background and brown/green of the vegetation. I do agree with Jerry that it would help if more detail could be brought out for the rock formations. There is always some level of dust in the air in the southwest so haze reduction in post processing would, in my opinion be of help. |

Darcy, I like the peaceful impact this picture has on me. While I think Jean's cropping does have advantages I prefer the image the way you first had it but I would agree with removing the plants in the foreground as Paul suggests. I also think it would benefit if you could bring out more detail on the sides of the forest from the right and left sides. I agree with Jerry's comments about getting more familiar with Lightroom as it can help in making a good picture look even better (I'm still a beginner and learning post processing skills but it is helping me, and I do get good support from my local camera club). Good picture. |

I like the composition and framing of this image with the canyon and waterfall framed by the rocks and foliage in the foreground. I think the rock walls in the center of the frame might be a bit over exposed, along with the yellow/green portion in the sun on the right side of the picture. i also believe that the greens of the shrubs in the foreground are a bit intense and could be toned back a little. With all that said, I think it is a great picture. |

This image has a positive impact on me with the sun placed just on the horizon line that creates a silhouette of the rocks along with their reflection. I like the lighting and color balance with the bright orange of the sun that then blends into the dark colors on the bottom of the image. I think the kelp on the bottom would benefit from being a little lighter so it will show more in the picture as a point of interest. I agree with Jerry regarding the cropping from the right side. Overall, a great picture. |
