31 Mar 21 Reply Thank you Paul, I appreciate it. Mar 29th
31 Mar 21 Comment Another well done still life Ella! The only improvements I could possibly suggest would be to use a small brush and gently dodge the edges of some of the darker fruit at the top left to bring out more definition against the dark background. I am envious at how well you produce such exquisite still lifes. Mar 17th
31 Mar 21 Comment Well done Paul. It brings back so many memories of the past. Mar 17th
31 Mar 21 Comment A wonderful example of large format work. The tops of the trees and the canal edge on the left provide set of leading lines towards a focal point on the horizon. Considering the extreme depth of field where everything is in focus, I would expect a minimum F stop of 16 or 22. Tri-X at ASA 300 and a shutter speed in the vicinity of 1/60. My only question would be concerning development, N or N+1? I assume you enjoyed a red wine with the cheese. Mar 17th
31 Mar 21 Comment Really fun image to work with Ian. I cropped the bottom in and dodged the shoulders a bit to try and get more of the characters persona to show. Gun is OK and now draws the eye down as it would in real life. Mar 17th
31 Mar 21 Comment Excellent image Peter. I like how the light brings both the church and the mountain peak forward in the image and balance each other visually. Well done. Mar 17th
31 Mar 21 Comment Nice image John. I tend to be a bit heavy handed when adjusting with NIK software. I bumped the contrast between the clouds and the hill a lot by using the NIK SEP preset "Full Dynamic Harsh" where I adjusted the structure to 47% and tweaked the levels & curves just a touch. I then used the brush tool inside NIK to apply the changes to a separate layer where just the clouds where affected. I then used NIK SEP again to apply a slight vignette around the edges to create more separation between the edges of the image and the background. I am curious to what everyone thinks. I like Peter's snow (much whiter) better. Mar 17th
31 Mar 21 Reply Thank you John. In color it is very flat with little contrast. Mar 16th
31 Mar 21 Reply Thank you Ed, I appreciate it. Mar 16th
31 Mar 21 Reply Thank you Ian. I will have to try a tighter crop of the spines and see what happens. Mar 16th
31 Mar 21 Reply Thank you Ella. Mar 16th
31 Mar 21 Reply The color version is very flat and green throughout. The only color is from the two flowers. Overall, this is not a showy bright cactus, but is rather drab, thus the black and white. Mar 16th

93 Mar 21 Reply Thank you Darcy, I am glad that you have enjoyed them. Mar 29th
93 Mar 21 Reply Thank you Dan. On this particular day, I was with a group of about 20 photography teachers from various school across the state of Utah. We met every summer for an in house workshop and had to endure the torture of going out every day to photograph something locally. That particular summer we spent 3 days in Moab next to Arches, Canyonlands, and Dead Horse Point. The majority of the teachers that year had never visited the area even though they lived within a days drive. Most of them were just to my right taking the very photograph you describe. I was the renegade who did not follow the crowd and instead photographed the less colorful mesas. It was difficult to not come up with something worthwhile. The best part for me was when we got together to compare results later in the day, everyone was asking where I was when I captured this image. No one believes I was next to them and just looked in a different direction. Mar 20th
93 Mar 21 Reply Thank you Ed, I appreciate it. There is a lot of atmospheric haze in the background due to the distance. I think exposure was a part of the problem as I struggled to get the mountains and clouds in the farthest distance to even show up. Believe it or not, there is another mountain range (behind the last one in the center) that extends across the entire image. Mar 20th
93 Mar 21 Reply No, its an image from 2018 so not that old. Its not noise but over processing with Topaz Impression (not sharpening). I admit to being heavy handed at times when processing in post and this was one of those times. Good eye for detail Jeff, I'll try to do better in the future and thanks. Mar 18th
93 Mar 21 Comment Nicely done Ed. The most I could suggest is to try using a polarizing filter to remove the slight atmospheric haze from the background cliffs. This may also improve the appearance of the shadows under the clouds and sharpen the boundary between the clouds and the water horizon. Mar 18th
93 Mar 21 Comment Very well done Paul. The slow shutter speed to slightly blur the water prevents the extreme detail from forming in the water that would distract the viewers eye from the details in the rocks and peaks. I like the results. Mar 18th
93 Mar 21 Comment Very well done Mark. To me, the image seems to be illuminated from behind and the trees are in a soft shadow which produces a more gray tone image rather than a high key image. This might be why you could not make it work for you, the contrast just is not there. Still a well done final image. Mar 18th
93 Mar 21 Comment Nice image of the fire and the surrounding landscape Darcy. personally, I probably would crop very tight on the fire (with the plane) and omitted most of the smoke and resulting shadow. It's a matter of personal choice and what you want to emphasize. Mar 18th
93 Mar 21 Comment Well done Jerry. Exposure is excellent. Mar 18th
93 Mar 21 Comment Very nice photo Jeff. I agree with Ed about the balance being off to the left. The image needs something on the right to balance out the boats. Mar 18th
