I regret being late in submitting my review. I have studied this image several times and struggle to understand its story. Was it your intent to highlight the Old tree, or the orchard, or both? Indeed, the road adds a bit of mystery to the image...where does it take us? No doubt, something stood out for you and you captured it. |

I agree with Mary Ann. What you have here is next year's Christmas card. |

Good use of "Wide Angle" to present a distorted view. You have done well to capture the building's texture (and to remove the wire). Well done! |

The reflections, IMV, are the star(s) of the show. And the overall tone of your image comes in a close 2nd. Indeed, the tree and the wires are a problem but, short of moving to a different location, I do not know how one would fix that!! I like that you included the bridge...the 4 second SS was just what you needed to capture the lights

My tendency is to study the image before reading the narrative. At first glance, I could make out the chairs but not the background. I knew that I liked the top-down angle. Then, after reading your narrative and learning the location, the nature of the building, and age of the flooring ( I live in the high-desert of Colorado...very little here is over 100 years old) it made perfect sense!
I prefer the color image, but then a color image has no place in a monotone Group.
This is a creative shot, with an interesting story. Well done. |

I very much enjoyed David's "rant" I will use this space to respond to several of his topical questions:
The image was taken last summer in Venice...midday with an overcast sky. My wife and I were merely on a self directed walking tour which required we occasionally use bridges. The scene caught my eye, largely because of the textures...brick, bridge, and water! Unplanned...just happened upon it! I used my Canon 90D and 24-105 lens, handheld. I tend to use high ISO and fast SS. I do this to avoid motion blur, which was a problem until I began to st for faster SS. I use Bridge to move the image into ACR. I adjusted for Noise and Sharpening (Topaz), then moved the image into NIK. This image used the "Push" preset. Then, in NIK, I used Viveza and a control point to lighten the gondola.
Thank you, David, for the description and Comment guidelines |
