Funny you mention using a long focal lens for this situation because before this summer trip most all of my landscapes I zoomed in and used my 150mm - 600mm lens zoomed out to 600mm. So this trip I was working on vast landscapes. I enjoy this group because of the comments of everybody it is a great learning experience. Thank you again |

What you did does make the image pop. I did try and bring out the contrast. I am just starting to learn about curves. So thank you so much. |

Thank you.
I see your point about the clouds I should not have touched them. Do you think not having a focal point adds to the vastness that I was trying to achieve? |

Thank you and yes you can use it. I tried to bring up some of the color in the rock I did not want to over do it so I was conservative in my use bringing up the hue. I did not pay any attention to the sky which I might do when I revisit it. Thank you |

I like the black and white it makes the tree seem gnarly. I also think the bw tones down the background allowing the tree to pop. |

I am impressed with the time you take in post. In general I like the composition you have a great s curve in the crust. Just my opinion is I find the shrub in the foreground is a distraction. I how you don't mind I removed it so let me know what you think. I like the spot color of the grass. |

As for the bison I spent about a month in Custer State Park and it was so amazing the amount of red dog babies this year. As for best lens that depends on what you are after. I used my Tokina 11-16 f2.8 for night, my daily go to was the tamron 28mm-300mm, and when I wanted the up close praire dogs I used my 150mm-600mm. So short answer would be a good zoom lens if you have to take just one.
Hope this helps. |

Welcome to the group I look forward to your images. I like the capture of the water movement. I agree with Paul the blue is just a tad too much, because your original was blown out, but that is understandable in what you were trying to capture. I like also how you are able to figure out what might have worked better after the fact. Thank you for sharing |
