I am with you on the crop being to tight. In my opinion landscapes should be about the whole, cropped in my eye started to see too many up close details that do distract. |

I like the moodiness of the photo, and the hazy feel adds to the mood of almost complete desolation. |

I like it even more so that it is in Wisconsin somewhere. (I grew up in Wisconsin). I am assuming the orange reflection in the water on the left side of the photo is the sun. It might be me but that is the only thing that distracts me my eyes keep settling back on the reflection. I enjoyed the back story also. Thanks for sharing. |

I first want to say I am sorry for the late input. I shoot the MW a lot and enjoy it although the hiking not so much. Side note photopills in an excellent app for any type of night shooting. I myself prefer the third original and am wondering if you used daylight exposure or auto white balance. Light pollution is unfortunately really hard to escape. I like your composition and can't wait to see more photos next MW season |

Thank you the funny thing with this landscape is I took 2 versions one with the whole pillar and then one with the tip cut off. I agree with you cropping in is better. |

Thank you Michael I did go back towards the end of our stay in Custer and took another shot of the rock and this is straight out of the camera and I like the tight end look |
