Michael, this is a great example of 'image making' vs photography. Very impressive. I can see this printed and framed, and hanging in a gallery. With your talent in creating this, you should look for similar raw material so as to create a portfolio for this type of work. |

Thanks very much Michael. It's always a challenge to put an image to this group that has impact. I appreciate all of the various comments that this image has received since it's so very difficult to be objective about own-work. |

Darcy,
I really like this image. It has a timeless quality about it and the B/W treatment is 'spot on' Although everyone in the photo-verse seems to be obsessed with 'clean images', I'd be very interested to see how this would look with a bit of soft focus and grain to emulate a film capture from a long time ago.... |

Jeff, I think that you're right about the source of the imperfections. I have printed this image at 11x17 for a recent submission to the Royal Photographic Society (UK) and it's clean. |

Very nice work, Mark. I like the natural framing of the lone tree and the fact that the composition is off-centre. Very worthy of printing and hanging. You have a great deal more patience with PP than I'll ever have! |

Jeff, This is a fantastic image. You have captured the scene perfectly in my opinion. I'm enchanted by the swiftness of the rushing water in the foreground juxtaposed with the serenity of the tree in the middle ground. Maybe because I'm too into PP, if it was my image, I would likely have removed the branch sticking out of the water on the left side. But it's a matter of "chacun à son goût" subjectively speaking. As for Darcy's comment about the camera body type, I'm not sure that EVIL vs DSLR is a factor in superior imaging. I think that it's more about the nut that triggers the shutter.... |

Thanks Paul. I hadn't considered cropping out the foreground water. I'll have to see how many px I have left if I do that. The original image (NEF) was captured from way back and I had to crop it down to remove quite a bit of negative space on the left and right. Darcy's crop looks quite good, and I'll try that when I get a chance. Thanks to both of you for your positive comments. |
