Jean, as always - YOU - are the final arbiter. I just thought that I break with convention and see how it looked as a square . I also did not want to crop out the reflection that you were able to capture. |

Jean,
I keep coming back to this image to study it before making any comments. It has the potential of being a very dramatic shot. I agree with your vision to keep the sky and reflection as the main interest which makes me think that the rock formations can be omitted altogether. I also found that the sky could use some additional "oomph" and that the reflection was not as evident as I'd like. I think that this image a great example of the sad fact that the sensor can't render a representation of what the human eye actually saw. I made a couple of PP changes - straightened the horizon by 1 degree, cropped out the rocks on the right and added some contrast. I also squared the image after the crop. I think that this is may be closer to what you actually saw..... |

Michael, Great image capture and PP. A testament to the notion that we are not 'photographers', we are 'image creators'. |

Ed, great image. I think I'd like to see it in B/W (notwithstanding Paul Simon's observation). I really like the masts of the sailing vessels and the reflections but I find the motor launch incongruous. Perhaps consider cropping? |

Jeff, There is something about the convergence of the horizon line and the bridge that I really like. The early morning colour temperature with the cloud formation in the background is very striking. That said, I found the gangway and dock somewhat distracting and superfluous. I have cropped it without any further PP, à chacun son goût, n'est pas? |

Thanks Jean,
Actually, except for the merging of two images (left side/right side) to get the whole village in one frame, there was almost no PP. But I see the lack of WOW. You guys are a tough crowd (LOL) so I will definitely try to uphold the high standards to which we have all been accustomed. I've been on a couple of hikes in the past week or so looking for spectacular fall colours. Nothing yet...... The colours have been OK but the view through the viewfinder has been 'meh'. |

Jeff,
I see your point. I suppose this is one of those images that are more meaningful to the maker than an observer. Kind of a "you had to be there" situation. |

Paul, I find this to be an excellent 'fine art' image. Well composed and PP'd. Very well done. |

Thanks Ed. The exposure was tricky since it was at night. The quality of the image is a testament to the capability of the Olympus 4/3 system. Note that shooting wide open at f/1.8 the lens produced excellent DOF. I'm not giving up my Nikon kit, but my E-M1 is a terrific second and backup system. I had not considered the image as a 'documentary' but I see your point. |
