Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
93 Jul 20 Reply Thanks very much, Ed. I am glad to have achieved my intended objectives with this image. As you know, this small group is a tough audience so positive comments are really appreciated! Jul 12th
93 Jul 20 Reply Dan, I had not considered a WB adjustment for this image. I tried warming it up a bit. I'm not sure about it because I rather like the drama of the cool image, but in the court of popular opinion (in my house) the warmer one wins. Thanks for the tip. That's why we're here! Jul 6th
93 Jul 20 Reply Thanks for the +ve comments Dan. As most of us know, composition is the key to most good images. When we got to the beach,we weren't sure of the sun's trajectory. We started shooting when it was higher off the pier, but it wasn't until the sun was lower in the sky that the images started to give me what I wanted. It was a challenging opportunity but I think that the patience was worthwhile. Jul 6th
93 Jul 20 Comment Michael, Good capture, I like the way the image draws me in to the scene. Suggestions: I'd remove the grass in the immediate foreground and punch up the colour a bit - to me it seems bit flat. Lastly, a little bit of crop .... Jul 6th
93 Jul 20 Comment Darcy, Very interesting image. I love the colours and I would not "correct" it. Overall, I find elements of the image distracting and although there is not a lot of "meat" to deal with, I took the liberty of suggesting a crop that maintains the essence of your capture. Jul 6th
93 Jul 20 Comment Paul, Kudos to you using that lens handheld! I have used it but only on a gimbal mount. I don't think I'd ever buy it. There seems to be some CA in the trees at the top of the frame. I like the way you have captured the calmness of the scene with the eagle and the low clouds. The only suggestion(s) that I have for the image would be to crop on the left side and straighten it. Jul 6th
93 Jul 20 Comment Ed, I have contrary view of the haze - I like it. In fact, I would probably add some blur to the image as well. It has a kind of surreal look now and I would enhance that. We are artists using cameras.... Just my opinion. Jul 6th
93 Jul 20 Comment Thanks for this image Dan. I rather like it and it's a good example of "seeing" something worth capturing that many other would just pass by. I am especially taken with the fine detail evident in the final product. You would almost think that you could feel the texture. I'd love to see this image printed on Hahnemühle Bamboo.

93 Jul 20 Comment Jean, You have certainly captured the "feeling" of being in the air and viewing the expansive landscape and other hot air balloons. There is a lot going on in this image and every time I look at it I can "focus" on a different aspect. Not sure when any of us will be able to travel to exotic locations again.... Jul 6th
93 Jul 20 Reply Thanks for your comments Darcy. I've been chasing sunsets and sunrises for a long time. All you need are these two things: patience and practice LOL. I shot my first dramatic sunset in January 2006 at Newport Beach, CA. Handheld with a D70s and I was hooked. As for the wacky colour, think "art" not "realism". Jul 5th
93 Jul 20 Reply Thanks Michael. I knew that there was a likelihood of colour shift with an 8s exposure, from other images that I've captured but since I create images vs snapshots, I'm ok with and rather like the uniqueness. I find the second image that I posted "nice" but a bit too pedestrian. Jul 5th
93 Jul 20 Reply Thanks for the comment Jean. I am interested in your remark "keep the colour close to the original...". My view is that there is a difference between creating art vs taking pictures. This was an 8 second exposure and thus I can't tell you what the original looks like. My eye/brain can not "see" an 8 second exposure. When I processed the NEF (raw) file, the image was heavily weighted in the blue/indigo range. I was shooting manual and changing up the settings. The image attached was shot at almost the same time with a 1.5s exposure. This also may not look much like the "original". Jul 2nd
