Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
42 Jan 20 Reply I looked again and see the curvature of the plate surface. I thought I was seeing a reflection of the fruit the first time I looked at this image. Jan 22nd
42 Jan 20 Comment I have some Red River metallic paper that I used for a Texas State Fair entry. Is that appropriate for this image?

Thank you for welcoming me to the group.

42 Jan 20 Comment This is an outstanding photograph; it makes me wonder what the Camel is thinking and listening to. I find it to be a major challenge to remove objects from the image like you did. I haven't developed the skill to select only the object or area that I want to work on. Circuses are a difficult place to make photographs because of lack of good vantage position, poor lighting, all sorts of movement, etc. Jan 14th
42 Jan 20 Comment I rented a Nikkor 105 mm macro lens over a long weekend and discovered it is a challenge to get everything in focus; however, I might purchase one when my budget allows for it. Distance from the subject to the sensor (film) plane might need adjustment to achieve the over all focus desired. Smaller subjects might be easier to photograph with a macro lens. The over all focus of the image can be increased by focus stacking.

I don't know anything about Dragon Fruit; I bet an Iron Chef can make something very tasty with it. I like this photograph for the colors and shapes. This is an artistic photograph to me; however, I am an engineering technologist.

Is the Dragon Fruit laying on a mirror?

42 Jan 20 Comment This photograph puzzles my mind; is the white snow or sand. The Joshua tree is fascinating, but the white spaces in the image keep pulling my eyes away from the tree. My eyes are also attracted to the mountains. I might have used a wide aperture for a shallow depth of field and set the focus point on the Joshua tree causing the mountains to be out of focus. My eyes might be playing tricks on me; I need cataract surgery that I will probably have in February. I was scheduled for cataract surgery today, but the doctor decided he will not do any more surgery and will retire at the end of 2020; he canceled my surgery. I have an appointment to see another ophthalmologist. Jan 14th
42 Jan 20 Comment This is a great documentary photograph. The chairs and overturned boat (apparently on the dock) and the water into the foreground tell the story of the flood. I might try cropping some of the sky out of the image. Burr - I do not like cold weather. Jan 13th
42 Jan 20 Comment This is an excellent photograph; the sharp focus on the bird's eye and catch light on the eye makes this photograph a winner in my mind. I might try to darken the background to make the bird more prominent. You might consider entering this photograph in the Heard Natural Science Museum's annual photography contest; see https://www.heardnaturephotographers.com/about-the-contest-1. Photographs must be entered between 01 and 23 February 2020 as .jpg files. Entry fee is $10 per image, and Best of Show winners receive $100. Jan 13th
42 Jan 20 Comment I agree about removing the blue car. I should have moved it before making my photographs. Next time I go to Camp Ford, it is about a 15 minute drive from our home, I will park on the far edge of the camp, now city park. I figured that I might crop my car out of the image when I made the photograph. I cropped from both the left and right sides but left the height unchanged. I will probably go back at a different time of day, park outside of my intended photograph, see if I can move further back without getting into traffic so that I can shoot wide so that I can crop to a 5 by 7 ratio. I like to print may photographs on greeting cards that are 5 inches by 7 inches when folded; I use Red River Paper #8451 card stock. It might be interesting to repeat this photograph on 120 film with either a Fujifilm CF670 Professional and/or Mamiya RB67 camera. Jan 13th
