Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
93 Aug 23 Comment Hi Paul, I'm always impressed with how people can tell stories through their photography. As a landscape photographer, this is something that I've never been able to effectively do. Your photo does this quite well. In addition to the nicely rendered B&W, you have managed to create a compositional circle using the children in your image. It's subtle, but very effective. My eyes start with the girl on the left and circle around to the small boy facing the camera. Then the water spouts carry my eyes back around to where I started. It's at that point where I start to explore the reflection and am thrilled with how you mixed abstract with realism.
I would suggest you try to clone out the words in the brick-work towards the upper left. Words call attention to themselves which become a distraction. It's an easy fix that would transform your image to something fabulous to extra fabulous. Nice going, Paul.

96 Aug 23 Comment Hi Viren, Yes, I agree with Bob. It's a terrific image. The composition is wonderful. But, your picture can use a little lens correction.
I would suggest you return during a Golden Hour period - preferably with some colorful clouds. If you were to catch some nice warm color in the sky, your photo would be a winner. Nice going!

96 Aug 23 Reply Thanks, Haru. Others might have different opinions, but I feel the evergreen is a major distraction. It's close to the center of the image and competes with the flowers and front tree. That fact contributes to the un-simplification of your picture. The background should be your secondary element.
I hope this helps.

96 Aug 23 Comment Hi Haru, I have been enjoying the body of work you've been showing through this study group. It shows you have an eye for color and a sensitivity towards soft tones.
I wonder, were you not satisfied with the comments from last month?
I see your center of attention as being the red flowers then the close tree trunk. The evergreen in the back is a big distraction. It feels out of place and perhaps even forced. The image is not too busy for my taste. Of course, the fog helps greatly in simplifying your composition.
My suggestion would be to find a way to eliminate that evergreen tree. Do you have other shots taken there at around the same time with the fog? If so, you might want to composite a section of the alternate photo over the evergreen.
You have a nice image where the brighter front tree truck is visually pleasing.

96 Aug 23 Reply Many thanks for taking the time to view and comment on my image, Paul. You are very kind. My hopes were that the birds and clouds would contribute to the entire image as a whole, not just it's singular parts. nevertheless, your thoughts are insightful which helps me understand how the image is viewed.

I will wait for the other members to comment before I talk about how the image was made. I don't want to influence how people see the photo.

96 Aug 23 Reply Thank you for your comments, Bob. I added the birds which were taken at a different time while on the coast. I agree, any further processing would have taken the image over the edge.

Yes, I am aware of PSA's intention to add AI as a study group category. I suppose PSA can do what they want, however I'm not in support of AI generated photography being legitimized by a well respected international members supported photography organization. If I had the clout, I would vigorously vocalize my disapproval. But that's not me. I'm content to do my own thing and mind my own business.

96 Aug 23 Comment Hey Bob, the rainbow is a nice touch, but that is not what makes the photo. To my eyes, the bird is your strong supporting actor. That makes your photo. It's what makes your photo stand out. It brings life and interest to your well shot image.
Yes, the lighthouse and spire come too close to the top and side edges, but those can easily be fixed by extending the canvas. I would also suggest you fix the lower left side of the lighthouse. It seems as if the cement has cracked off. This makes the lighthouse look wonky. Simply extend the side of the lighthouse above the damaged cement with your clone tool.
Very nice capture, Bob. These are not easy shots to make.

96 Aug 23 Comment Hi Ye, nearly everything with your photo for is well executed. Your Color Palette is pleasing to the eye. The long exposure and reflection makes for a nice and tranquil feeling. I also like the subtle pilings or floats in the water. The highlight in the sly is a nice touch.
Composition is everything in visual art. The structure of an image affects the story being told. So, please bare with me as I dissect your photo compositionally: The round Ferris wheel at the far right is crammed too close to the frame's edge for my taste. It feels as if it should be more of a prominent subject of interest because of it's round, definable shape. Circles are pleasing to the viewer's eyes.
Having the round wheel over to the a far edge seems like a compositional afterthought. If you are content to use the "Rule of Thirds" for your horizon line position, I would have tried to put the wheel on a power point a third into your frame. This way, you would have completed your Rule of Thirds formula.
Regardless, it's a fabulous photo to look at. By the way, I think it's better without the fireworks. The shot might have looked too busy.
